Alma Pauline Pethtel, 96, of Nampa, passed away on January 1, 2017 of natural causes at a Nampa care center. She was born on November 7, 1920 at Kuna, Idaho to Lizzie and George Reed as the next to youngest of eight children.  She grew up in the Mora community of Kuna. She graduated from Kuna High School, as did her husband and two children.

She married Robert V. Pethtel May 1, 1938. She was a farmer’s wife until she went to work for Boise-Cascade, then for the Kuna School District in 1959. She worked under 4 different Superintendents during her 26 years at Kuna. She was awarded a Lifetime Membership in the PTA.  She was the President of the Can-Ida Chapter of Professional Secretaries Assoc., the President of Lake Cascade 4-H Camp, serving 9 counties, the Secretary of Ada County Advisory Committee for Extension Service for 12 years. She was 4-H Leader in Ada County for 23 years.

Her second career started as Secretary for the Canyon County Fair in 1984, she worked 13 years spearheading changes and improvements for the 4-H Youth and the entire public. Retiring in 1998.

She bowled for over 50 years. She was Treasurer of Nampa Women’s Assoc. for 4 years and President for 6 years. She helped organize the Nampa Bowling Council. She won State Senior Singles Tournament and represented Idaho in Corpus Christi, Texas for Nationals. She placed 12th in her class, competed in State and National Tournaments, also Northwest and Gutter Gussie.  She Bowled the National Douglas Tournament in Reno with family members.  Highest Game – 279 (Twice), Highest Series 645 and Highest Average 175.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glen, Marion and Raymond Reed; sisters, Edna Wood, Mable King, Alice Colson, Mary McPheeters; her husband, Robert V. Pethtel; son, George M. Pethtel; great grandson, Tyrell Pethtel.

She is survived by her daughter and son- in- law, Faye and Ron  Russell; Daughter- in- law, Linda Pethtel; sister and brother- in- law, Helen and Gene Wade; and a sister-in-law, Estaline Reed; grandchildren and spouses, Ronel and Ray Peterson, Cory and Lou Russell, Kyle and Kendra Russell, Tim and Melanie Pethtel and Chad Pethtel; great grandchildren; Scotia Bruijn, Jake and Hope Russell, Claire and Nelson Russell, Amber, Tell and Libby Pethtel, Julia Skogsberg, Teresa Peterson and Amanda Waring; nine great-great grandchildren and  numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Cascade 4-H Camp, 217 W. Georgia, Suite 100, Nampa, Idaho 83686.

A public viewing and visitation will be held at the Nampa Funeral Home on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. A private family graveside will follow in the Kuna Cemetery
