Janet Weenig Owens

July 30, 1936 ~ May 5, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old


Janet Weenig Owens, of Nampa passed away Friday May 5, 2017 at the age of 80. Janet was born July 30, 1936 in Ogden, UT to Harry and Evelyn Weenig; the fourth of eight children.  Born and raised in UT she had a 10th grade education and worked in the family grocery store with her father.  The family moved to Boise in June of 1953 when she was 16 almost 17 years old.  That is how she met and married Clyde Edward Owens December 23, 1955.  Then later sealed in the Idaho Falls, ID temple.  After they were married they moved to San Diego where Clyde was stationed in the Navy.  After San Diego, they were transferred to Beaufort, SC for a year.  Then Janet moved back home to Boise with her parents while Clyde served his final year of military service in Hawaii.  Clyde and Janet then moved to Pocatello in 1960 after his military service ended so Clyde could attend college to become a Medical Technologist.  After Clyde completed his degree in the spring of 1962 they settled in Nampa, ID where they raised their family.  Born to this union was 3 daughters, Pam, Rinda and Rene. Janet followed her father's footsteps remaining in the grocery store business working for Safeway for 25 years as a meat wrapper and then working for IGA, M & W Market in Nampa and Boise and then finally Albertson's before an early retirement due to health problems.  Janet was born and raised as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints serving faithfully in many callings from Primary to YM.  Janet had a strong belief in prayer that got her through the toughest times in her life. She will be remembered for her laugh and positive attitude in all things.  She was a peacemaker and always reminded all of us to speak kind words to each other.

Janet is survived by her 3 daughters Pamela Jan Purdy (Ron) of Caldwell, Rinda Kay Grossglass (Neil deceased) of Albany, OR, Rene Archuleta of Nampa.  Janet had 9 grandchildren Troy Michael Buffington(deceased), Jeremy Grossglass (Bethany) of SC, Jennifer Clifford (Aaron) of FL, Marylee Kenny of OR, Ashley Tackett, Shayla Tackett, Shardenae Archuleta, Jasmine Archuleta and Ricky Archuleta all of Nampa.  Four great-grandchildren Emma, Lillie, Eli and Lucie all of FL. Janet is also survived by her two brothers Val and (Patty) Weenig of Vancouver WA and Clair and (Joan) Weenig of Walnut Creek CA.  Janet is also survived by her brother-in-law Don and (Nadeen) Owens of Boise, sister-in-law Carla Mabe of Boise and Arlias and (Donna) Owens of Bremerton, WA. Numerous extended family members and friends that were more like family.  Janet was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, her grandson Troy Buffington, her parents, a sister and 4 brothers as well has several extended family and friends.

The family would like to thank Grace Assisted Living and Encompass Hospice Healthcare for the love and care they showed to Janet. 

A viewing will be held at the Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel at 415 12th Ave. South Nampa from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday May 11, 2017.  A service will be held Friday May 12, 2017    at the Amity L.D.S. church located at 2212 East Amity Ave on the corner of Chicago and Amity with a viewing at 1 PM and service at 2 PM.
