Lavonna B (Lawson) Hughes

November 12, 1933 ~ July 24, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old


Lavonna B Hughes, 83, of Nampa, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the home of her daughter with her family by her side after an extended illness.  Lavonna was born November 12, 1933 in Arkansas City, Kansas to Raymond and Carmine Lawson.  She spent her early years in Walnut Grove, Missouri graduating from Walnut Grove High School in 1953. 

After a pen pal relationship while he was stationed in Korea, Lavonna met   the love of her life, Dallas Roy Hughes the first part of April.   It was a whirlwind romance and they married 10 days later on the 24th, 1951.  After Dallas returned from Korea they spent the beginning of their love life together in Missouri having 4 children Lavonna, Connie, Cheryl and Dallas, Jr.  They then moved to Othello, Washington where Dallas had found a new job and soon later they had Dale.  Lavonna was a homemaker until 1972 when they moved the family to Sunnyside and she began working for Independence Foods.  She worked in the lab doing quality control for 14 years before retiring. 

Lavonna and Dallas spent their retirement years traveling spending some summers in Alaska and winters in Lake Havasu until they moved to Copper Center, Alaska in 1993. Lavonna and Dallas spent a lot of time fishing and doing crafts from ceramics, fishing lure earrings and her favorite pastime was making butterfly bookmarks and magnets.  They resided there until 2010 when they decided it was time to go someplace warmer and moved to Nampa, Idaho. 

Lavonna is survived by the love of her life for 66 years, Dallas, her 5 children, Lavonna Allee, Connie (Greg) Cardenalli, Cheryl (Tim) Davis, all of Nampa, Idaho, Dallas (Becky) Hughes from Wasilla, AK and Dale (Shelley) Hughes from Anchorage, Alaska.  She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren and one great great Granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wendell and one grandson Steven Allee.  

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene (in the chapel), 601 16th Ave South, Nampa, Idaho with a private family dinner after the service.  The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the All Care Health Solutions, 815 S. Bridgeway Place, #122, Eagle, ID 83616 or the Department of Veterans Affairs Home Health, 500 W. Fort St., Boise, ID 83702.
