Michael Braddock Coba

January 4, 1960 – March 10, 2017

Michael Braddock Coba, 57, of Nampa, ID passed away at home on March 10, 2017 after a courageous two-year battle with kidney cancer.

Born on January 4, 1960 in McCook, Nebraska to James and Betty Coba, Mike was the third of six children.  When Mike was 9, his family moved to Caldwell where he was raised and educated, graduating from Caldwell High School in 1978.  After receiving a Business Degree from Boise State University, his work included financial advising and investments.

In 1989 Mike married Patricia Cole (Quarles) and with that union had two sons, Joe and Cole, of whom he was deeply proud.  Mike reunited with his high school sweetheart, Jane Baxter Gardner, and shared the last 13 years with her.

Mike’s quick-witted humor and willingness to lend a helping hand will always be remembered.  His love of sports was a life-long interest; always keeping up with college and professional team statistics.  He enjoyed riding his bicycle throughout the Treasure Valley, and with his brothers completed the STP (Seattle to Portland Bike Classic) several times.  Other interests included bird hunting, fishing, and gardening.  Mike was active in the Nampa Toastmasters Club for five years and served as its president for two.  Quality time with his sons, family and close friends was treasured.

After being diagnosed, Mike fought a tireless and positive battle with his disease.  He endured much and complained little. His family is grateful for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, where he participated in a clinical trial for one year.  With his giving spirit, Mike hoped that his participation in the trial, if not leading to a cure for himself, would benefit researchers in finding successful treatments for future patients.  We would like to extend deep appreciation to the staff at the Nampa Mountain States Tumor Institute and Treasure Valley Hospice.  Thank you to his wonderful family and numerous friends for their loving support to this wonderful man who has truly left us all too soon.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth(Betty) Coba.  He is survived by his partner, Jane Baxter Gardner of Nampa; his two sons, Joseph Coba of Los Angeles, CA, and Cole Coba (fiance Tiffany Bittner) of Boise, ID; his father, James Coba of Caldwell, ID; one sister, Catherine (Kay)Kent, Caldwell, ID, and four brothers, Mitch (Nancy), Woodinville, WA; Marshall (Katy), of Salem, OR; Bill (Jennifer), of Kenmore, WA; and Dave (Genevieve), of Boise; 11 nieces and nephews; Jane’s two children, Melissa and David Gardner- both of Boise, and many dear friends.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be Friday, March 17, 2017 at 2:00 at the Nampa Civic Center, 311 3rd Street South, Nampa.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel where an online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Treasure Valley Hospice, 8 6th Street North, Suite 200, Nampa, ID 83687.
