Norma Marion (Fischer) Mangum

Norma Marion (Fischer) Mangum, 104, wife of the late Dr. Thomas Mangum, Jr., went to be with her Lord on July 1, 2017 in Boise, Idaho. 

           Born on April 17, 1913 to Jesse and Jean Fischer in Lougheed, Alberta, Canada, Norma was the third daughter of six sisters. Her parents and grandparents had gone to Canada to take homesteads and establish wheat ranches. Her Canadian roots were forever a part of her. The Fisher Family was influenced by a traveling evangelist with the Nazarene Church, and Norma's parents eventually made the decision to move to Nampa, Idaho in order for their daughters to receive a Christian education at Northwest Nazarene Academy. They moved across the street from Dr. Thomas and Emily Mangum, and soon Norma met her future husband, their son, Tom, Jr. in school. They married December 4, 1934 in Reno, Nevada. After her husband's death in 1970, her strong faith in the Lord continued to sustain her. She loved to create. As a wife, mother, school teacher, painter, and friend to all, she found the good and beauty in everything.

          Norma's family cherished their many years together. She took special pride in each and every one. She is survived by Charmaine and Gerald Cates, Thomas III and Marvella Mangum, Jon and Joanne Mangum, Rachelle and Ray Hamell, and Marijo and Caleb Standafer. 'Mona' will be fondly remembered by her 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, as well as her large extended family. 

          Friends may join the family for a memorial celebrating Norma's life, Saturday, July 8, at 3 PM at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Avenue S., Nampa. Internment will be at Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, Idaho. Donations in her name may be made to the Mangum Family Scholarship Fund at NNU Office of University Advancement, 623 S.
