Raymond Donald Bean, 105, passed away September 10, 2016 at his home, with his wife, Lillian, by his side. Ray was born August 8, 1911 at Lake Andes, SD to Victor and Sarah (Meerdink) Bean, the seventh of twelve children. Soon the growing family moved to Deer Creek, MN and later to Henning, MN where Ray attended school in a one room school house and was reared on the family farm
On September 11, 1932 Ray married Vivian Riggs in Hewitt, MN. Ray and Vivian raised their four children, David, Joanne, Darrel and Dale and farmed most of their married life near Hewitt.
In April 1983, Ray and Vivian retired from the farm and moved to ID where they could enjoy a slightly warmer climate that would benefit Vivian’s failing health. In addition, Ray would be near his brothers, Carroll, Iver, Cameron, and Ken. Vivian passed away July 15, 1984, after nearly 52 years of marriage.
Ray married Lillian Grice on February 9, 1986. They enjoyed over thirty years of marriage living at the “Poor Farm” on Owyhee Street in Nampa. They traveled extensively and Ray found great enjoyment restoring farm wagons and buggies, and farm machinery, repairing furniture, and making beautiful clocks. He and Lillian did their own yard work and canning until they moved to Streamside Assisted Living in May 2015.
Ray always loved spreading the gospel and telling folks of his wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ, who he had invited into his life when he was 19 years old.
Ray is survived by his wife, Lillian, his sister Bonnie Rutherford of NJ, and his sons, Dale Bean of CO, David Bean and Darrel Bean, and daughter, Joanne Crider, all of MN, and their families. Locally he is survived by nephews, Jim Bean, Camie Bean, Ron Bean, Dick Nolte, and niece, Cheryll Bergstrom, and all their families. Ray is also survived by Lillian’s sons and daughter, Steve Grice, Art Grice, Tom Grice and Linda Pascoe, and their families.
