Robert Charles Grundhauser passed away peacefully on July 27, 2016, in Nampa, ID, from CLL Leukemia.  He was 79 at the time of his death.

Bob, or Grundy as most of his friends called him, was born on September 22, 1936, in Dickinson, ND, to John and Corine Grundhauser.  He joined half-siblings Woodrow, Wayne, and Dorothy.

In the summer of 1956, Bob married Mary Rae Jarding who was his high school sweetheart.  They recently marked their 60th wedding anniversary.  They welcomed 4 children: Jim, Don, Rene (Knapp), and Debra (Jones).

Bob made his career as a wire chief with the Northern Pacific/Burlington Northern Railroad.  He worked in several communities in Montana, but finally settled in Glendive to raise his family.  His final years with the railroad were spent in Forsyth and Laurel.

Bob enjoyed fishing and camping in Yellowstone National Park with his family and spent many years coaching Little League Baseball for his sons.

Both Bob and Mary Rae had green thumbs and proved it every summer with their extensive vegetable and flower gardens.  Bob showed each grandchild how to pick cherry tomatoes and pop open garden peas.  In later years, he and Mary Rae enjoyed traveling to several Nevada locations for fun and to catch up with family and friends.

Bob’s years in Glendive were filled with fun and adventure and became the source of many stories shared over the years.  He was a proud founding member and lifetime president of the Ground Sluicers of America based and memorialized at the Beer Jug in Glendive.  We fondly remember him wearing a white bunny costume and carrying a musket while walking in the 4th of July parade.  He was a lifetime member of the Elks, spending many hours organizing and working the annual Elks Picnic, as well as the Beer Booth for the county fair.  For many years, he was part of the team who worked the scorer’s bench for the Dawson Community College Buccaneers.

Preceding Bob in death are his son Jim, his mother, father, and siblings.  He is survived by his loving wife Mary Rae, son Don (Chris), daughters Rene (Annie), and Debra, as well as grandchildren Eric, Nick, Sydney, Kelsey, Nathan, Andrew, and Madi and great-grandchildren Ben, Connor, and Blake.  He will be deeply missed by extended family Mary Mertes, Bob Knapp, Peter Jones, Bailee, Parker, and Bridger Donald.  Many friends, both old and new, will also feel the loss of Bob’s humor and guidance.

Please join the family for a service and celebration of Bob’s life on September 16, 2016, at 3:00, at the Silha Funeral Home in Glendive, MT.  Meanwhile, cards of condolence may be sent to Mary Rae and the family in care of Rene Knapp, 3547 Hartford Ave., Butte, MT 59701.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society, or to a charity of your choice.

Final care, arrangements, and services for Bob have been handled by Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel in Nampa, ID and Silha Funeral Home in Glendive, MT. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com
