April 1, 1946 – September 1, 2017

After fighting for over 2 ½ months at St. Alphonsus-Nampa and Vibra Hospital, Ron passed away on September 1, 2017. His heart’s desire was to go to his home in Nampa with Denice, his wife of 30 years. But God had a better plan for Ron. Ron went to his heavenly home with his Savior Jesus Christ, where there are no wheelchairs, pain or tears. He will be dearly missed.

Ron was born April 1, 1946 in Nampa, Idaho to Emery “Paul” and Dorothy Schlapia. Ron’s favorite childhood memories took place in Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho when his father was a logger and life was full of fun and adventure.

Ron was a truck driver for IdaCal trucking, a welder, drove log trucks in Alaska, raced a stock car in California and a bellhop for a major hotel chain, just to name a few of his jobs.

Ron was 33 years old when he had a waterskiing fall that left him paralyzed from the chest down. He was in a wheelchair for 38 years.

He married the “best thing that ever happened to me,” Denice Outen in June of 1987. They enjoyed camping, playing cards and just being together. As the years passed, they became closer and closer and were “best friends.”

Ron was a master wood craftsman, even thought both his hands were paralyzed. He had incredible patience using a scroll saw and could work for hours.

He loved the Lord and took the “great commission” very seriously. There were several people saved who lived in his mobile home park. He had a weekly bible study in his home and he went to Karcher Estates to help with their Sunday Church service for many years.

Ron is survived by his wife, Denice of Nampa, a daughter, Sheri Diaz of Modesto, CA, a stepdaughter, Renee (Kevin) McNeese of Boise, a stepson, Rob Outen of Parma, four granddaughters, three grandsons and one great-grandson. Four brothers, Mike (Tana) Schlapia, Gary (Sherry) Schlapia, Rick (Tracey) Schlapia, Tony (Suzanne) Schlapia; Three sisters Paulette (Orfie) Sedillo, Patty (Dan) Wells, and Veta (Terry) Cushing, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
