Twila Claire (Mattingly) Whitinger

Twila Claire Whitinger “Nans”, 62, of Nampa, Idaho passed away December 15, 2017 after an arduous but brave fight with cancer. A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at the Nampa First United Methodist Church, 2717 12th Ave. Rd in Nampa, Idaho on Friday December 22, 2017 at 10:00am. A private burial will follow in Gridley, CA with her beloved family. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th. Ave. So. – 208-442-8171. Twila was born in Williston, North Dakota to Carl and Fritz Mattingly on November 25, 1955.  She spent her early childhood years in North Dakota before her family moved to California. She graduated from Las Plumas High School in Oroville, CA in 1974. In 1979 she gave birth to Lindy in Oroville, CA and her life’s joy began as a mother. The summer of 1982 brought a curly-haired man named David into her life at a softball game and by 1984 they were married and welcoming their second daughter Lauren to the family. Leah and Lanie followed in the years of 1987 and 1990. These early years of mothering were some of her hardest and happiest years. A few years after Lanie’s birth they made a change by moving to Nampa, Idaho and settled in for the long haul. Over the years she held a few different jobs but found her niche in property management, which took her to Hailey, Idaho 2 days a week until June 2017. Our mom enjoyed cooking from an early age and was known to be a fantastic chef to all that were lucky enough to eat at her table (which were many!). She also loved gardening, shopping with her “grils” (daughters), traveling to see her siblings, taking care of her grandbabies and hosting her entire family for birthday dinners. She was a gifted multitasker, always cooked too much food and tried her darndest to make us eat it all, a mother to more than just her original 4, and her family’s fiercest protector. Our mom enjoyed attending church throughout her life and found a haven in reading and studying the bible, especially in the past few years. She loved our dad very much and toward the end of her life found an immense amount of comfort in his arms.

Our mom is survived by her husband, David; daughters & “sons”, Lindy & Chauncey, Lauren & Joel, Leah & Louie, Lanie & Charles; grandchildren, Drew, Kailer, William, Harvey, Bay, Lena, Emerald, and another precious girl still cooking. She also leaves behind her siblings-in-law, Dayle & Bill and Dianne whom she considered to be her own siblings as well as her nieces and nephews.

Our mom was most sad to leave her grandbabies. Her name gifted from her eldest grandson, Drew, was “Nani or Nans” and she was truly the best Nans a child could ask for.

We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to all who cared for our mom during her time fighting cancer as well as the immensely supportive and wonderful Encompass Hospice team. Your work is profoundly important.
