Viris “Vi” Irma Long, 87, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away September 22, 2017, after a courageous one year battle with cancer. Now she has gone to be with Jesus.  Her smile and witty comments will be missed.  There will be a viewing and visitation at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Ave. So. – 208-442-8171 on Tuesday evening, October 3, 2017 from 5 – 7 PM. There will a funeral service to honor and celebrate her life on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 2 PM at the Karcher Church of the Nazarene, corner of Middleton and Karcher Roads. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com
Vi was born September 25, 1929 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Clint and Ethel Calkins. She had five siblings: Wilma, Melba, Leroy, Howard and Robert. Viris attended Northwest Nazarene College and met her husband, Wendell. They were married September 5, 1949; 68 years together. They had six children Dave(Carol) Long, Marilyn(Dean) Sprenger, Connie(Mike) Nordman, Charles (Kay) Long, Jerry Long, and Brenda(Dave) Doerksen.
Vi is survived by her husband, Wendell; 5 children; her brother, Howard; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, all but one sibling, and a daughter, Marilyn.
Vi was a homemaker raising her six children through high school. Later she worked in health care- mostly at Mercy Medical Center. She was active in her church in the children's department, Vacation Bible school and world missions. She was involved in mission trips to Argentina, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
Vi loved her husband and children dearly.  She had a gift for sending cards, personal notes and poems.  Gardening, cooking, and serving others was her passion, not to mention Mexican Train and puzzles.  With Wendell she would read the Bible and pray each morning. During retirement she and Wendell traveled the United States in their RV for about seven years aiding Christian summer camps and schools with cleaning, organizing and construction projects.
We want to say thank you to Nampa MSTI and Heart & Home Hospice for their excellent care.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 173, Nampa, Idaho 83653.
