Wayne "Red" Daniel Taylor, Sr.

Wayne "Red' Daniel Taylor, Sr. was born at home in Hannibal, Missouri on November 27, 1929 to Raymond S. and L. Ruth Taylor. He slipped away peacefully due to complications from diabetes on April 18, 2017 in Nampa, Idaho.

Wayne grew up in Hannibal, Missouri where he met his high school sweet heart, Billy Frances Stout. He was an outstanding all-around athlete who set a shot-put record that stood for 25 years. He played football at  The University of Missouri where he graduated with a BS in Education in 1952. He joined the Marines and married Billy Frances in Quantico, Virginia. They spent their first six years stationed in various states while serving in the Marines. Captain Taylor was a proud pilot with Marine fighter squadrons and flew the FJ-3 Fury Jet interceptor. He flew from the aircraft carriers USS Saratoga, USS Forrestal and USS Monterey during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean PUC.

They happily returned to Hannibal to raise their three children. Wayne began his 23-year career with S.C. Johnson and Son/ Johnson Wax. After several years in Hannibal, they moved to Chicago, St. Louis and Brea, California due to company promotions. Wayne retired from S.C. Johnson as the Zone Manager for the Pacific and Western Zones. He then worked for Century 21 Real Estate for several years. They lived in Brea for 26 years before retiring to Nampa, Idaho in 2000.

Wayne was a respected leader at work and was dedicated to his family. He was a loyal, avid fan at his grandchildren's sports activities. He and Billy enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in Nampa and California. He will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billy Frances Taylor, his parents, and siblings, Raymond F Taylor, Catherine E (Dolbeare) and great granddaughter Bailey Downs.

He is survived by his children: Danielle (Gary) Downs, Wayne (Stephanie) Taylor, Jr, Julie (Tim) Dranginis; 10 grandchildren: Whitney (David) Ashdown, Wayne D. III, Scott, and Donald Taylor, Cody, Carly and Kyle Dranginis, Cammy (Josh) Dranginis Heidegger, Devin (Tiffany) Downs, Benjamin (Elise) Downs, and four great-grand children: Ethan, Owen, Jack, Ava and Charlotte Downs.

A military honors service for Wayne will be held at Idaho State Veteran's Cemetery, 10100 North Horseshoe Bend Road in Boise, Idaho on Monday, May 1 at 1:00 pm.
