Janet Murphy Obituary

Janet Carol (Warn) Murphy was born on October 17, 1942, to Dean and Lucille Warn at her great aunt Ruth's home in Nampa.

Janet grew up on a dairy farm on Southside Blvd. In her youth she took piano lessons, played trombone in school band, and did sewing in 4H.  She was always a very good student.  In the summer you might find her touring the farm on her bicycle with the front basket full of small kittens wrapped in a towel.

She attended Nampa Christian High school and was in the first graduating class.  While there, she played in band, sang in choir, and made a lot of dear friends.  She met Don Murphy through a blind date set up by friends. After their date Don went home and told his mom “I met the girl I am going to marry.” They were married December 21, 1962.

Janet attended La Verne College in California to pursue her Elementary Education degree.  She put her education on hold after she and Don were married and moved to the east coast to join Don where he was stationed in the army. On May 3,1964 their first daughter Tanya was born.

After Don was honorably discharged from the Army, they packed up their car and moved cross country back to Idaho with an 8-month-old and their cat Spunky.

Once returning to Nampa Janet completed her Elementary education degree at NNC. On November 9th, 1971, they welcomed their second daughter Christa.

Teaching was Janet’s passion and she taught students in the Nampa school district for over 30 years.  She made many lifelong friends while teaching at Sunnyridge Elementary School.

Janet loved being a wife and mother. She supported her daughter’s many activities; including driving them to practices and sewing many costumes. She was their greatest cheerleader.

During the summer months the family enjoyed sailing and camping.  Jan was also active in the musical group, Majors, and Minors, that put on several shows a year.

Janet loved being a grandmother to Lucy, Ken, Gage, and Sophia, attending many of their activities encouraging them and cheering them on.

Janet was a lifelong member of the Nampa Church of the Brethren. She had many dear friends at the church and was an active member.

On May 28th, 2012, her beloved husband Don passed away.  Janet is survived by her two loving daughters and their families. Christa (Bob) Carlson and their children Gage, and Sophia. Tanya (Mark) Murphy-Thomas and their children, Lucy (Nathan), Ken, Shelley (Jim), Shawna, of Eagle and Ryan and 2 Great Grandchildren, Ryah, and Declan of Houston. She is survived by her bother Duane (Bev) Warn, and sister in-laws, Beth Hazen, Marilyn (Bob) Denning, and Rosalind Borcher and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband Don, her parents and her brother, Daryl.
