Dolly Bernice Chitwood, 94, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away August 14, 2018 in hospice care at Nampa.
Dolly, more commonly known as Bernice, was born July 25, 1924 at Plad, MO., to John and Ida Smith. Bernice was united in marriage to Loren Chitwood at Lebanon, MO. Following WWII, during which Bernice and Loren worked in the shipyards at Vancouver, WA, they moved to McKenzie Co. in western North Dakota. Here, they purchased virgin land and began a wheat farming operation. Upon retirement Bernice and Loren relocated to Spokane, WA to be near their children. More recently Bernice relocated to Nampa, ID, sharing residence with her daughter. Bernice, a member of Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, was a person of strong faith in Christ, living a transformed life and serving others.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son, Steve, and brothers, Warren and Harold. She is survived by her daughter, Ardith Hunter, Nampa, ID; her son and daughter-in-law, Monte and Joyce Chitwood, Eagle, ID; grandsons, John (Hiedi) Hunter, Lane (Hilary) Chitwood and Matthew Chitwood; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Ave. So. Burial will be in the Schafer Cemetery, Watford City, N.D.
