Jesse Embree Obituary

Jesse “Jess” Charles Embree, 92, went to his heavenly home on Valentine’s Day February 14, 2018 at Rosewood Memory Care in Hillsboro, Oregon.  His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Jess was born on November 19, 1925 in Selah, WA to the home of Archie and Irma Embree.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Earl, Ray, Frank and Glenn and sister: Ethel Embree Fuller, wives Ethel Gaerte Embree and Ruth Hagel Embree.  He is survived by two children:  David Embree and Roberta (Bobbie) Embree Cook, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jess was a WWII Army veteran serving in an artillery unit in the Philippines.  He was very proud of his military service and had many stories to share.  Following his discharge, Jess worked in various automobile body shops eventually owning his own auto body shop “City Auto Body” in his adopted hometown of Nampa, Idaho where he lived for over 50 years.  Jess was a true lover of classic cars restoring dozens of cars in his lifetime.  His pride and joy was a 1929 Ford Model A.   At the age of 40, Jess decided to complete his education graduating from Northwest Nazarene College one year before his son David graduated from High School!   He then began a teaching career until his retirement.  He taught Jr. High math in Caldwell, Idaho for many years.

Jess was a faithful layman at the Fairview Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho.  He held almost every position in the church over the years.  He and his wife, Ethel, continued that dedication when they attended the Bethel Church of the Nazarene.   His commitment to Christ and the church was lifelong.  He served on several work and witness type missions including a mission trip to Haiti.

Jess was involved in various organizations: Gideons International, Treasure Valley Ford Model A Club and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly.)   While in TOPS, Jess was awarded the title of Idaho “King” for his weight loss achievements.

Viewing will be held Friday, February 23rd from 9-10:30 A.M at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel 415 12th Ave. S. in Nampa, Idaho.  Graveside service will be held the same day at 11:00 A.M. at Kohlerlawn  Cemetery in Nampa, Idaho.  His family would like to give thanks for all those that have cared for Jess during his last days: Rosewood Memory Care in Hillsboro, OR and especially Serenity Hospice.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given in Jess' name to Gideons International.
