June Palmquist Obituary

June Elizabeth Loveall Palmquist, age 83, passed away from cancer at her home in Nampa on Friday, March 23, 2018. June was born on June 23, 1934 to Lowell C. Loveall and Jennie Lind Skinner Loveall in a grain shed on a farm in Chinook, Montana. The middle of 5 children, June had 2 older brothers, Wayne and Claude Loveall, and 2 younger sisters, Carol and Naomi.

Raised on the family farm, mom admitted to pinching the cows when milking them so she would be sent indoors. Mom was not called to farm life. As a teenager, she met a young man that captured her interest named Mel Palmquist. They reconnected while both attended Northwest Nazarene College, and were married shortly after Mel’s graduation, on June 10, 1955. Mom often said, “I knew life with Mel would never be boring.” And she was right!

Mel became an ordained minister in the Church of the Nazarene, and June quickly took to the role of pastor’s wife. A woman of many amazing talents, she worked tirelessly in the church, played the piano with flair and sang beautifully, taught Sunday School, lead ministries, and reached out to others with God’s love. They pastored in a variety of churches over the years, including View, WA; Stevenson, WA; Port Angeles, WA; Kent, WA; Phoenix, AZ, Oakland, CA; and Sacramento, CA. In the later years, Mel and June started several successful businesses, which mom managed right up to the time of her death.

They were blessed with 3 children — Ron, Guy, and Lori Jo. June was a loving and attentive mother who took immense joy in her children. We feel incredibly blessed and proud to be her children.

June was an amazing, generous, talented, vibrant person whose defining characteristic was unconditional love. She had friends all over the world. She truly and deeply cared about people, and saw the good in everyone. She had a heart for the hurting. To know June was to love her. She was also exceedingly generous, held onto things lightly and loved sharing with others. Most of all, she had great faith and love for the Lord. She knew hardship, but she was a woman of invincible joy. What a gift she was to all of us.

She will be greatly missed, and we can’t wait to see her again in Heaven. What a joyous reunion that will be!

Survived by loving husband of 62 years Mel of Nampa, daughter Lori Jo (Perry) of Boise, son Guy (Andrea) of Meridian, son Ron (Brian) of Sacramento, CA. Cherished grandchildren: Jacob Palmer, Sarah June Duggins (Isaac), and Jesse Palmer. Sisters Naomi Hancock, Carol Everson, Brother Claude Loveall. Numerous beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest brother Wayne.

All are welcome to come celebrate the amazing life of June Palmquist on Friday, March 30 at 11am, at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene.

“For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:5
