Margaret Q. Vasquez
February 19, 1920 - January 3, 2018

On January 3, 2018 our beloved mother, grandmother and nana, passed away peacefully with loving family at her side.

Margaret "Maggie" was born on February 19, 1920 in Cananea, Sonora Mexico to Santos and Rosario Quiroz. When Maggie was 4 her family immigrated to Superior, Arizona when her father was hired to help build the smelter at the copper mine. Maggie was the oldest of six children. Her father died when she was 12 years old. She attended school in Superior until 10th grade when she quit school to help care for her younger siblings while her mother worked to support the family.

Maggie met Joe Vasquez who worked as a meat cutter in a grocery store in Superior. They were married in 1937 in Florence, Arizona. They had their first 2 children, Joe Jr. and Pam then moved to San Pedro, California, to work at Todd Shipyards at the start of WWII. After the war Maggie and Joe moved back to Arizona and added twin boys, Don and Ron, to their family. Besides taking care of her home and family, Maggie also helped Joe in the small grocery store they owned. Later she worked for many years as a cook at the Florence Hospital and then part time at Mandell's Department store. Maggie and Joe were married for 56 years before he died in 1993.

Maggie was proud to have achieved her US Citizenship in 1942 and then earned her Arizona High School Certificate of Equivalency in 1972.

Maggie dearly loved her family, her home and her friends. She enjoyed passing on to her grandchildren her skill and custom of making tortillas and tamales. In Florence, she was an active member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish for many years. Maggie moved to Nampa in 2010 to live with her daughter and family. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church.

Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
