Marie Magdeline (Mari) Marostica passed July 28, 2017.  Marie was born in Sterling, Colorado, March 25, 1925, to immigrant parents Clarence and Catherine Mari. Marie was the oldest daughter of twelve children.  She attended Iliff, Colorado schools until the 6th grade when she had to leave and help her mother with the raising of her siblings.  While home, she was taught many valuable skills from her mother, which she carried throughout her life.

Being raised during the 30’s taught her how to stretch her money.  I won’t say she was cheap but very frugal.  That trait helped her get by with her own family on the farm when times were challenging.

She met and later married Victor Marostica also of Iliff, Colorado.  After the War they moved to Parma, Idaho in 1948 to begin their farming career and to raise their three children, Sandy, Gary and Vic.  Mom was a typical 50’s mother, she stayed home until the kids could care for themselves before taking an outside job.  She worked as a dental assistant, scale lady, cashier, and other odd jobs.

She was always sewing, knitting and crocheting in her spare time, making lovely quilts and afghan blankets.  But she was most proud of her hand made Indian pine needle woven baskets.  They were beautiful and it took much skill and patience to build.

After Dad’s passing, the farm was sold and she moved to Nampa, Idaho, where she lived in Silvercrest, a retirement community.  She was so proud of her home, it stayed cool in the summer and warm in the winter, unlike many of the other homes in which she had lived.  Her stay there was brief as she had a stroke and moved to an assisted living setting where she lived until her passing.

Her longevity can be attributed to the care she gave herself with physical activity and proper nutrition.  She could be seen walking or riding her bicycle for her daily exercise and always eating vegetables and fruits.  She was a devout Catholic and was dedicated to the church throughout her life.

Thanks Mom for raising us.  I will always remember the handmade ravioli’s and the best German chocolate cake ever.  (Also thanks for slipping that $10 to me for my date!)

The family wishes to thank Grace Assisted Living in Nampa, Idaho, for the caring and patience the staff showed Mom.  Your kindness will always be remembered.

She leaves behind two sons, Gary (Debbie) Marostica, Vic (Sue) Marostica, son-in-law, Larry Burke, grandchildren Chris (Phil) Davison, Mike (Linda) Dutton, Jonni (Jeremy) Maurer, Crissy (Michael) Hollenbeck, and several great grandchildren.  She also leaves behind her brothers, Jake Mari, Junior Mari, Richard Mari, sisters Dorothy (Bill) Dobson, Gertie Fogali, Babs O’neil, Rosie (Butch) Wright, brother-in-law Harold Duffield, sister-in-law Donna Mari.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Marostica, daughter Sandy Marostica, siblings Bob Mari, Alice Mari, Ray and Joyce Mari, Irene Duffield, Helen Mari, Albert Mari, Don Fogali, Hugh O’Neil and her parents, Clarence and Catherine Mari.

Per Marie’s request, there will be no memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel where an online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome
