Ruth Solomon 90, of Nampa, Idaho, died on Monday, December 11 surrounded by her loving family.  A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, Dec. 30th at the Nampa United Presbyterian Church, 400 E. Lake Lowell Ave. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel where an online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com

Ruth was born on June 23, 1927 to Howard Havens Wasser and Edith (Ayers) Wasser, in Phoenix, AZ.  Her early musical talent was encouraged by her mother. By age 14 she was singing in the adult choir at the Presbyterian Church, and advancing her private studies in piano and voice at the local college. She graduated from Park College, a Presbyterian school in Missouri 1949 with a degree in Music Education.  While in a Masters program at San Francisco Theological Seminary, she met and fell in love with Alfred Solomon. Their relationship blossomed on a school choir tour and they married on May 27, 1950.

Ruth was vital to Al’s ministry as they served together in churches in Oregon, California and Washington. She served in a number of leadership roles, including Deacon. She had a beautiful soprano voice which she shared with her congregations and community and also served as choir director and accompanist.  Ruth performed in numerous community choral groups including the Portland Symphonic Choir, Hartnell Community Chorus (Salinas) and the Camerata Singers of Monterey County. She taught piano and led music in Early Childhood Education programs.

Grandchildren drew Ruth and Al to Nampa, ID in 2004.  They forged new friendships at church and in their new community.  They volunteered at the senior center, enjoyed water aerobics at the rec center, and attended the Boise Symphony.  When Ruth was widowed after 58 years of marriage, she showed us her inner strength. She continued an active and meaningful life, despite the loss of her best friend Al. She expressed gratitude and appreciation daily for the people in her life, and delighted in her family, especially her grandchildren.  Ruth remained informed and passionate about local, national and world issues throughout her life, but people were her real joy.

Ruth is survived by her children, Bob (Betty), Nancy (Robert Schultheis), Ron (Janet Rosen). Inspired and supported by her, the three continue to be active musical performers. Ruth is also survived by six grandchildren, Daniel, Michael (Sasha), Jeff, Sarah, Sam and Judith.  She was the center and rock of our family.  Her open heart, unconditional love and practical action made the world a warmer place. Mom, we will miss your joyful song in our lives.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Nampa First United Presbyterian Church or the Idaho Youth Ranch.
