Albert Phillips Obituary Albert William Phillips September 3, 1953 to October 4, 2021 Al Phillips was kind, brave and generous. He laughed like thunder. Kids and dogs loved him. Al didnt always have a lot, but always had enough to share and always found someone to share it with. He loved music and motocross. Al loved and devoted his life to Jesus (though he didnt always like church). He loved working at Fairview golf course and teaching kids to golf. Al deeply enjoyed the interactions he had with so many people at that course. Al was the eldest child of Albert Leval Phillips and Lois May Wieneke's six children. He was the son of a war hero, flat-track racer & boxer. Though Al came from and was made of tougher metal than most, he wore it in such a way that made people feel safe & at ease. As a kid, he pitched so well that he once got to do so at Dodger Stadium. At a very early age, Al began working with his father as a painter in the Hollywood hills. By the age of 14 he was a member of the painters union and helped support his family of eight. He taught his daughter, Shane, to ride a dirt bike, pitch a baseball, argue proficiently about jazz and blues, and the importance of resiliance. Al adored his grandson Elijah & was lit up by his heart & integrity. Al met his best friend as a young teenager, so he married her. He loved her with an epic, mythological kind of love that made other relationships seem pale and flat. After nearly 50 years of marriage to Shari, he never lost his admiration, adoration or sense of wonder. Shari would say to their daughter, Shane, "Look at your father, isnt he magnificent?!" Her head would shake a little as though she were struggling to take it all in. Al would put his arm around Shane and say "Your mother is beautiful, brilliant, strong, my favorite artist; but mostly, shes just the best person Ive ever known." Those comments happened with such frequency that they were just normal. Al is survived by his wife Shari, daughter Shane, & grandson, Elijah and his brothers and sisters Louise, Helen, Ovette, Daniel & Donald. Als legacy is that he loved well, lived big, laughed hard, loved Jesus & gave everything he had. He was a great, big, good man. The goodness that he was and gave will continue to reach through to the people that he loved. He will never not be missed.
