Arthur Glenn "Pat" Sims was born March 17, 1922 to Charles Milton Sims and Emily Bird Farris Sims in Merino, Colorado (Logan County). On Monday June 24, 2013 Pat passed away peacefully at home while being cared for by his loving family. He was baptized Feb. 2, 1930 at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Manchester, Kansas. He received his primary education in Dickinson County, Kansas. Pat helped his Dad manage a creamery in Manchester. In his youth, Pat enjoyed hunting with his two dogs. He said they were the very best raccoon trackers.
Pat moved to Nampa with his family at the age of 15. He worked in agriculture, at Nampa Animal Products; he also worked at Boise Stone. He married Florence June Francis June 22, 1941. They had five children, Patricia, Edwin, Sandra, Albert and Darlene. The family moved to Nebraska in 1960 where he farmed. Florence passed away June 3, 1965 and Pat married Lavera Ivey Bowen June 17, 1968. With this marriage the family expanded to include Jerel, Ardel, Ron and Tamara Bowen.
Pat and Lavera farmed in Nebraska for six years before returning to Nampa in 1974 where he continued to farm then later worked for Iowa Beef. Pat retired in 1986 and took time to enjoy his golfing, take pride in his yard and spend time with friends and family. Pat and Lavera recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary.
Pat was preceded in death by his wife Florence, daughter Patricia, parents, sisters, Margaret, Betty, Leota, Donna, infant sister Goldie and one brother Allen Sims.
Pat is survived by his wife Lavera, children Edwin (Patsy) Sims, Sandra (Gilbert) Bialas, Albert (Jane) Sims, Darlene Sims, Jerel (Sandy) Bowen, Ardel (Sherrie) Bowen, Ron (Sam) Bowen, Tamara (David) Casey and one sister Gloria Emily Sims;
23 Grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends appreciation to the staff at Sunnyridge Care, Reverend Steven Perotti, Janice Hobbs, his church family, Heart n Home Hospice and Palliative Care, his devoted children and grandchildren and all who helped care for this loving man.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nampa First Christian Church or a favorite charity.
A celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Nampa First Christian Church, Nampa. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall at the church.
