Betty M. Horton Ludwig, 78, peacefully passed from this life to the next on January 1, 2016 to see Jesus and her parents. Betty's family which included her caregivers from Country Time Assisted Living were with her. She was born on July 6, 1937 in Greenville, Michigan to Esther Lax Horton and Warren Horton. Betty had two brothers Carrol (Kay) Horton and Eldon (Darlene) Horton and two sisters Edla Rieckman and Marian (Jim) Cooper and a half sister Ruby.
Betty worked part time at a little country store in Harvard Michigan while going to school in addition to helping her neighbor, Mrs. Weeks. While growing up she drew and sketched pictures but never pursued that talent. In 1957 Betty traveled to Great Falls Montana to help her sister Edla and brother-in-law Ralph. Betty worked for a short time at the hospital there. Edla and Ralph met a young Air Force service man and brought him home from church to meet her. This was the beginning of a new chapter in her life. Her and Don dated for a short time before she returned home to Greenville, Michigan. Don did not let distance hinder their courtship and in December wrote a letter proposing marriage. Betty accepted. In June Don hitch hiked to Michigan and they were married June 14, 1958. They bought a car and traveled back to Montana to get ready to travel more as Don received orders to go to England. Then they made a trip back to Michigan while she waited for approval from The Air Force to join Don in England. Betty traveled by The Queen Mary to England where they spent the next three years. Their travels in the Air Force took them to many places and adventures including Presque Isle Maine where their 1st son, Mark was born September 13, 1961 and then 3 years later to Fort Belvoir Virginia where their second son, Andrew was born November 11, 1964. Eventually they went to Okinawa and then back to Mountain Home Idaho to finish their Air Force career. Betty always took the challenges of traveling and change well as an Air Force Wife. Betty did latch hooking for a hobby and she enjoyed maintaining the home for her family keeping things organized. Betty had a strong Christian faith that kept the family together. She was a member of Nampa First Church of The Nazarene and always had an interest in missions and was eager to help anyone in need.
Betty was preceded in death by her father Warren Horton, Mother Esther Lax Horton, Step Sister Ruby, and brother-in-law Ralph Rieckman and Nephew Tim Rieckman.
Betty is survived by her husband Don, two sons, Mark (Sindy) Ludwig, Andrew (Diane) Ludwig, Grandson, and two Granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
The family wants to specially thank Country Time Assisted living staff that became her extended family and Legacy Hospice for their kind and loving care.
