Betty was born in Nampa on April 19, 1923 to Freeman and Bernice Gowen at their home on 13th Street. She attended Nampa Schools and graduated from Nampa High in 1941 and went on to the College of Idaho. She met Fred Schafer and they were united on June 30, 1946. She worked at First Security Bank in Nampa and then became the financial officer for the family business, Conoco Fueling Station on 12th Ave and 4th Street Nampa which they later sold to start a new adventure with Herff Jones/Master Engravers, while balancing a full schedule with 4 very loving, active sports-oriented children. She enjoyed her term of being an Election Precinct Registrar and managed the election poles in her precinct. Betty was very proud of her Methodist upbringing and was active in her church as well.
Her sense of humor was accentuated towards the end of her life for everyone to appreciate and was truly loved by those caregivers at Kindred Care, Karcher Estates and Horizon Hospice. The sparkle in her eyes and smiling face will be immensely missed by all.
If you so choose, a donation in her name may be made to the Canyon or Ada County Animal Shelter, or a charity of your choice. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com
