Obituary

Brenda Louise Simon, 56, of Kuna, passed away unexpectedly from a brief illness on Thursday, April 23 surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 30, 1958 to Harold and Dorothy Boschma in Bellflower, CA. In 1963, her family moved to Phoenix, AZ to start a dairy. As a child, she loved to ride horses and often spoke of her riding adventures to the Salt River where she would catch wild goldfish to stock the water troughs back at the dairy. Brenda attended Phoenix Christian schools until 1974 when her family moved to Kuna, ID where she attended Kuna High School. Brenda met the love of her life, Joe, while working at the Hungry Onion Drive-In during the summer of 1975. They married in the fall of 1976 and spent 38 wonderful years together enjoying the simple pleasures in life. In recent years, she followed Joe to many tropical destinations in search of perfect scuba diving and the ultimate gelato. Brenda had a strong desire to serve others - both in her personal and professional life. She not only loved helping and spending time with family and friends, but also dedicated herself to the students, families and teachers at Kuna Middle School. Brenda had two sons whom she loved dearly - Brandon, born in 1979 and Jacob, born in 1985. As the kids grew up, Brenda spent time coaching them in soccer and attending almost every sporting event or activity that they participated in. She was an extraordinary mother and Oma (grandmother) and would do anything for her family. Brenda began her teaching career in 1992 as a Title 1 Aide and substitute teacher for the Kuna School District. In 2001, she earned a bachelors degree in education from Boise State University and, that fall, began teaching 8th grade language arts at Kuna Middle School. Brenda earned a Master's degree in Reading Teacher Education in 2007 and became a Reading Specialist, focusing on teaching reading skills to 7th and 8th graders. When she wasn't working, Brenda loved spending time with her friends and family and enjoyed countless hours in her flower garden. Gardening was her passion and she loved being outside and watching her creation grow. Greenhurst Nursery may not have prospered without her. Brenda is survived by her husband, Joe Simon of Kuna; son, Jacob (Dannielle) Simon of Meridian; son, Brandon (Nicole) Simon of Hayden; grandchildren, Nathan and Collin Simon of Hayden; parents, Harold and Dorothy Boschma of Kuna; sister, Christine (Ron) Welker; brother, Larry Boschma; sister, Diane (Randy) Peterson; brother, Dan (Darla) Boschma; sister, Rose (Richard) Perez; and brother, Ron (Julie) Boschma.
