Brian Florence Obituary Brian Florence was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, on August 29, 1961. After a 62 yearlong battle with dyslexia and 12 yearlong battle with cancer he passed away in Boise, Idaho, on Fathers Day, June 16, 2024, at home with his three children Keagan Florence, Kaitlyn Burgett, Kailea Burgett, and beloved Australian shepherd Ace, by his side.
Brian was the youngest of six children to Otto and Mary Alice Florence, who preceded him in death. He grew up working at the FallsBrand meatpacking plant, attended St. Edwards and Washington Grade Schools, and graduated from Twin Falls High school. Brian made many lifetime friends growing up in Twin Falls who were exposed to his early artistic eccentricities.
Brian graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Art in Graphic Design. During his junior year in 1982-83 he transferred to Italy, where he attended Gonzaga-in-Florence. He loved being in a city filled with art and a city that shared his name, and he loved traveling on school breaks to explore the world and study art all over Europe. Brians treks include but are not limited to, slinking through caverns beneath the Great Pyramids, wandering through Leningrad in search of an underground discotheque, and chatting with the mafioso at a Cosa Nostra Sicilian wedding.
After working several years as a graphic artist for Steele, Stoltz and Associates, Brian started his own advertising and graphic design business in 1992, Steamroller Studios Inc. During his many years in graphic design, Brian worked with numerous clients, including J. R. Simplot Company, FallsBrand Independent Meat Co., Salmon Creek Farms, Kathryn Albertson Enterprises, Commercial Tire, St. Lukes Regional Medical center, and the Braun Brothers Reunion. He also donated his talent and artistic skills to charities, local and regional organizations, and schools, including Sacred Heart where all three of his children attended.
Brian had a love for everything outdoors and music related. He enjoyed biking, backpacking, snowshoeing, camping with his friends and family, and exploring nature, especially the Owyhee Desert. He had a passion for live music that when married to his artistic ability birthed a series of guitar art inspired by both local and classic rock stars in partnership with Gallery 601. He shared this affection with his three kids whom he took to music festivals every year. Even after the cancer began to limit his activities, his creativity, innovation, and perseverance allowed him to design and use an adaptive trike and van, and a wheelchair that could plow through the snow at Lucky Peak. Brian did not let these difficulties slow him down and continued to wear a smile every day.
Brian is survived by his three children, Keagan, Kailea, Kaitlyn, and granddaughter Amaya. Also surviving him are his brothers, Pat Florence and wife Wendy, and Franny Florence and wife Betsy; his sisters, Kelly Jones and husband Jim, Mrezzie Putman and husband Hugh, and Maggie Saunders and husband Kenny. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and the lifelong friends he made along the way.
We would like to thank the St. Lukes Hospice team and the Red Fox caregivers for their labor and love during his last few months.
