Byron Barney Wilkerson, 96, of Nampa, passed away Friday May 29, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. Barney was born September 10, 1918, in Caldwell, ID to O.B. and Mary Wilkerson. Barney was raised in Notus, Id., where he attended school and participated in baseball, football, and basketball and also met the love of his life, Doris Ode. Barney and Doris were married on December 24, 1940. He served during World War II in the railroad division and was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon his return, Barney and Doris made their home in Nampa where he established Barneys Distributing which he owned and operated until his retirement. One of Barneys favorite past times was training and working with hunting dogs especially his faithful companion, Tammy. He was a passionate hunter, fisherman, bowler, and avid golfer. He loved entertaining, cooking and sharing a dry "martuni" with his many friends and was known for his famous grilled ribs, served with a side of his witty sense of humor. Barney is survived by his wife, Doris of 75 years, his brother George Wilkerson, 3 daughters, Sharon (Antone) Chacartegui, Pam (Skip) Tuttle, and Vicki (Ted) Arnold, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Barney was preceded in death by his parents, O.B. and Mary Wilkerson, brothers, Rolland and Lowell (Stub) Wilkerson and great-grandson Robert Byron Coggins. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 13th at the Elks Lodge, 1116 1st Street South, Nampa at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
