Carl "Tiny" Bellamy, 92, died on April 7, 2017, at Heron Place Senior Living in Nampa. Tiny was born on March 13, 1925, in his Aunt Minnies farm house in Holtville California, three weeks after his family arrived from Oklahoma. He was the fifth of eight children born to Carl and Glena Giles Bellamy. At the end of his fifth grade year, his family packed two small pick-ups and a 1934 Dodge two seater and moved to Oregon, where his father purchased a farm a half mile north of Donald. Tiny graduated from Woodburn High School in 1943, and signed up for the draft, but was immediately assigned a 2-C deferment for having an agriculture occupation. Later that year, the family moved when his mother purchased an 800-acre wheat and alfalfa ranch eight miles west of Goldendale, Washington. Tiny was drafted into the U.S. Army on November 18, 1944 and spent six months in the Philippines and a year in Japan. He enrolled at Northwest Nazarene College in February of 1947 and, in the spring, was an inaugural member of the schools track program, competing in the 440, 880, and mile, and pitched for Coach Monte Lee on the teams first baseball team. In the 1950 season, Tiny defeated College of Idaho twice, a feat that has never been duplicated by an NNU pitcher, and ended the season with a 6-2 record. During his years at NNC, he also competed on the basketball team, and coached basketball at NNCs then high school. In July 1949, he married Mary Atwater (a fellow NNC student) in Elko, Nevada. They had to elope, because her parents had picked a different husband for her, and she was only 17. They were married for 65 years until her death on Valentines Day, 2015. Tiny transferred to Central Washington College of Education in the fall of 1950, pitched for their baseball team, and graduated in 1951. He spent the first nine years of his working life teaching school and coaching in the Yakima Valley in Washington, and in Modesto, California, and the last nine years as a high school coach and teacher for the North Slope Borough School District in Fort Yukon and Point Hope, Alaska, before retiring in 1989. In between, he had a Signal Oil distributorship with service stations in Astoria and Tillamook, Oregon, and had a real estate business in La Grande, Oregon in the 1970s. In 1983, his nephew, Sam Bellamy, talked him into buying 8 cows, and Tiny did so, on the condition that Sam would take care of them. By retirement, Tiny and Mary had 339 beef cows and 12 bulls. He was an active member of the Union County, Oregon, and National Cattlemens Associations, and received a "Top Wrangler" award from the state association in 1995. His faith and daily devotions were the main stays of his life, as was the Nazarene Church. He first went to the Church of the Nazarene as a baby in El Centro, California, and attended throughout his youth in Oregon and Washington. As an adult, he was an active member and often board member of Nazarene churches in Oregon (Tillamook, The Dalles, La Grande, and Elgin), and Parma, Idaho. From March 1997 until his death, he was a member of College Church of the Nazarene in Nampa. Tiny and his wife were lifelong supporters of Northwest Nazarene University and its athletic programs. They were inaugural members of the Crusader Athletic Association when it was formed in 1974, and Tiny was a member of the C.A.A. Board for over 20 years. In 1996, Tiny and Mary moved into a lovely home on Deer Flat in Nampa, exactly 4.2 miles from the NNU sports complex. They were a fixture at NNU athletic events, BBQd for NNU teams, organized fundraising events to benefit the schools sports programs, and opened their hearts and home to countless students and student-athletes. The couple was the honorees at NNUs 2011 "The Legends" Golf Classic. On March 1, 2014, they were also inducted into the NNU Athletic Hall of Fame for their meritorious service. Tiny spent the last year of his life at Heron Place, where he was well loved by the staff. They hosted his Monday morning coffee group when he could no longer meet them at Fred Meyer, and were always welcoming to a steady stream of visitors from his NNU family, his church, and his children and grandchildren. Tiny is survived by his children: Larry Bellamy of Irrigon, Oregon; Marla Bellamy of Caldwell, Idaho; Candy Bellamy of Nampa, Idaho; Rob Bellamy and wife Gloria of Anchorage, Alaska; and Lisa (Lee) Bellamy of Los Angeles, California; grandchildren: Marque, Isaiah, Tanner and wife Wendy, Nathaniel, Sierra, and Teresa; and great grandchildren: Durbin, Ocean, Daniel, Ashlynn, Garrett, Celeste, and Samantha. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and all of his siblings. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at College Church of the Nazarene, 504 E. Dewey Avenue, Nampa, 83686.
