Carl Tackett Obituary CARL PRESTON TACKETT OBITUARY September 10, 1923 August 10, 2022 One of the last of the Greatest Generation, Carl Preston Tackett was born September 10, 1923 in Harold, Kentucky to James and Lillie Tackett. He was the 5th born of 13 children. In 1941, the family moved to Nampa, where Carl worked for Tiegs Farms until he joined the US Army during World War II. Carl served on the Pacific Front and was deployed to the Philippians, in preparation for combat in Japan. When the war ended, he was honorably discharged and returned to Nampa where he met and married his wife of 66 years, Pauline Ellis, and where they raised their family. Carl worked as a carman for The Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement. Carl took advantage of every opportunity to hunt and fish. He loved the great outdoors and gave his children the same love and respect for the world around them. He also enjoyed a good tease or two, always with a wink or a twinkle in his eye. Carl looked forward to planting a garden each year and was known by family and friends to grow the best tomatoes ever. He was a man of integrity, who lived by the Golden Rule. He was open and honest and never met a stranger. Carl passed away peacefully at home just one month shy of his 99th Birthday. He was preceded in death by a son, Carl Lee; and by his wife, Pauline. He is survived by a son, Clinton George Tackett of Caldwell; a daughter, JoAnn Marie Markham (Ben), of Spokane, Washington; a brother Sammey Tackett of Nampa; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great-great grand children; as well as many nieces and nephews.
