Obituary

Carol (Scrivner) Kern, age 79, of Nampa, Idaho passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Surrounded by grandchildren, children, brothers and sisters, Carol quietly accepted Gods promise of eternal life and went to join her husband of 57 years, Dwight. She was born in Meridian, Idaho on November, 28, 1932, to Lloyd and Buelah Scrivner and graduated from Meridian High School in 1951.

Carol married Dwight Kern on September 17, 1951 in the Kuna First Baptist church. She was preceded in death by her husband Dwight, who passed away in 2008. Carol is survived by four children, Randy (Debra) of Idaho Falls, Idaho: Rick (Susie) of Grapevine Texas: Rene (Curtis) Homer of Nampa, Idaho: Rob (Leann) Kern of Meridian, Idaho; 16 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren; sisters Bobbie (Don) Reynolds of Wenatchee, Washington; IlaDean King of Nampa, Idaho; Donnie (Murdock) Radford of Pinehurst, Idaho; brothers Elvin (Dixie) Scrivner of Meridian , Idaho: Melvin (Jan) Scrivner of Meridian, Idaho: Wes (Barb) Scrivner of Boise, Idaho.

When Carol and Dwight began their life together, little did she know the adventurous life she would live? Dwight was a dreamer and always saw new opportunities to pursue. These adventures included owning and operating a small restaurant together in Meridian, Idaho. Dwights work in the food service industry resulted in frequent moves that included Pocatello, Idaho; Durango, Colorado; Billings Montana; Renton, Washington; Boise, Idaho; Durango, Colorado; Billings, Montana; Ogden, Utah; and eventually choosing to retire in Nampa, Idaho. Carols best times of her life were her two favorite jobs, managing the Safe Deposit area for the First National Bank of Durango, Colorado and working as a Medical office receptionist in Ogden, Utah. Carol had a special gift in making a new home for her family. With every move, it seemed like it was only days that our new home felt like home, warm, cozy and safe.

In 1997, a special event happened in Carols life. Carol was suffering from kidney disease and the long-term prognosis for her was not good. Carol was not a good candidate for going on the national kidney transplant list; so, a decision was made to test family members for a transplant match. Her younger brother Melvin was an excellent match and Melvin unselfishly decided that he wanted to donate one of his kidneys to his sister. The transplant was performed at the University of Utah Medical Center on December 16, 1997. Typically a kidney transplant will last eight to ten years. Carol survived for over 14 years. Words can not express our gratitude to Uncle Mel for the gift that gave us 14 memorable years with our mother.

Family and friends will gather later this month to Celebrate Carols life. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you make a donation in Carols memory to The Boys and Girls Club of Nampa, Idaho. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
