Obituary

Cory Drake Obituary Cory Richard Drake passed away with his family at his side on December 2nd, 2024, at age 55. The fourth child of Gary and Fern Drake, Cory was born in Nampa, Idaho. The family lived on a dairy farm in the Kuna area and Cory spent his childhood working on the farm. He was excellent at driving the tractor and scraping the corrals. Because Cory was the youngest, he said that he inherited his siblings chores when they left the farm. Cory attended Kuna schools, was active in 4-H and FFA, winning several awards, and played the saxophone in the schools band. As a young man, Cory was blessed with a beautiful, curly beard, and he was asked to play Santa in the Kuna community for many years. He would spray his beard white and deliver gifts to families and call their children by name. His nephews and niece would say Santa sounds like Uncle Cory. Cory was involved in the Kuna Community in the Jaycees group then the Kuna Lions. For many years, he helped with the chains at the Kuna High Football games. Neighbors tell stories of Cory delivering a homemade Dutch oven pumpkin pie to their house on his 4-wheeler. He also made a great pecan pie and pineapple upside down cake. He liked to share food and make people feel welcome. Cory liked to fish and joined his brother, Bob and his family on camping trips. Corys hobbies included crafting: glass etching, puzzle building, and duct tape flowers; and watching Western movies. Cory was a reliable employee and worked for Stay-Rite Truss building trusses, Albertsons warehouse distributing marketing materials, Pazzles servicing Circuit machines, and then as a custodian at the Kuna School District. Cory loved being a Kaveman. His co-workers noted that Cory was always ready with a funny remark or trivia fact as he did his work. About 15 years ago, Cory started playing Bingo at the Kuna Senior Center. The seniors eventually asked Cory to be the Bingo Manager for their weekly Bingo games because he was patient, dependable, and entertaining. Cory was loved by the Bingo crowd and many thought of him as a son. In September 2023, Cory was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer. He received kind and compassionate care from the St. Alphonsus Oncology team. Cory is survived by his grandmother, Martha Moon Nelson; his Mother, Fern Drake; his siblings, Brenda (Dan) Blitman, Bob (Carla) Drake, Cindy (Matt) Russell; his nephews and niece: Max (Emily) Blitman, Calvin Blitman, Austin (Kendra) Drake, Adam Drake, Drake (Georgiana) Russell, Blaisien (Monica) Russell, Larkin Russell, Trevan Russell; his great nephew, Everett Benjamin Russell; and many cousins and their families. Cory was proceeded in death by his grandparents: Bob Drake, Alpha Drake Horn, Richard Dudley; his step-grandfather Everett Horn; his uncle, Ted Drake; and his father, Gary Lee Drake. A Celebration of Life where we ask that people share stories and memories about Cory will be at the Kuna Senior Center on Tuesday, December 17th with the service starting at 4:30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kuna Senior Center or a charity of your choice.
