Obituary for Dolores Ann McGoldrick

Dolores Ann Tycz was born June 30th, 1932, in Burke, South Dakota. She was the only daughter of Mary Ann (Salek) and Joseph Jacob Tycz. Before she was even old enough to attend school, Dolores moved with her family to Nampa, Idaho. It was in Idaho that she would spend the majority of her long life.

Devoted to her church, Dolores attended Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Nampa, where she made lifelong friends from grade school on into adulthood. A girl never content to be idle, she studied at University of Idaho in Moscow Idaho in 1951. While it appears that U of I was not the place for her, she was an active member of the university community and features as a secretary in the Gem of the Mountains Yearbook.

She returned home to Nampa, where she met Leon Daniel McGoldrick. Their love story began at the Roller Drome. Leon and his friend were both vying for her attention. The friend took Dolores skating when her charm bracelet broke and spilled charms everywhere. Being a gentleman, the friend stopped and was picking up her charms when Leon took his opportunity to swoop in and take her skating instead. From that moment on, he never let her go.

Leon and Dolores were married on September 6, 1953, in Saint Paul's Church. Together they briefly moved again to try their hand in another city, living in Bremerton Washington where Leon had a good job. But Dolores knew for sure this time that Idaho was "home," so Leon sold everything in Washington and relocated back to Nampa, where they would complete their family and raise their 4 children.

When the children were small, Dolores balanced the life of a mom and the need to stay busy by owning a small knit shop where she sold yarn and offered knitting and crochet lessons. When Dolores's youngest child went to school, she enrolled in Northwest Nazarene College and received her teaching certificate in 1973. She graduated from college the same year her eldest, Cindy, graduated from High School. After teaching briefly, she decided teaching was not for her and that she could make more money at Birdseye Processing plant. She changed jobs one more time and worked for Carnation/Nestle Factory, where she retired in 1997.

In 1972, Leon and Dolores purchased approximately 10 acres of land where Leon built a new home for his family with his own hands. Their home, built with blood, sweat, and swears, is where they both lived the rest of their lives, and would go on to spend countless hours with future grandchildren.

Dolores enjoyed being a grandmother and was always very present in her grandchildren's lives. She could keep up with just about any game, from playing "store" to baseball in the yard, or Super Mario Bros on the Nintendo. Christmas Eve spent in the McGoldrick living room as one big chaotic family are now some of the fondest holiday memories expressed by her grandchildren.

And just when she thought life couldn't get better than being a grandma, Dolores became a great-grandmother. She adored her great grandchildren and got so much joy by having them around or hearing about their interests and accomplishments.

After almost 62 years of marriage, Dolores lost her lifelong partner and husband, Leon. Always independent, she lived as a widow but insisted on staying on their 10-acre property in the home Leon built for her. This was also done by the blood, sweat, and swears of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On October 27, 2025, Dolores Ann McGoldrick left this earth to join her Heavenly family. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her elder brother Joseph, her grandchild Matthew, and her daughter-in-law Rhonda.

She is survived by her youngest brother Eugene Tycz (Linda); children Cindy Farwell, Jerry McGoldrick, Angie Dossett (Bob) and Tom McGoldrick (Margaret); grandchildren Kyle Farwell, Megan Farwell, Carey McGoldrick, Michael McGoldrick, Cassie Freeman, Chrystal McGoldrick and Hayden McGoldrick; and great grandchildren Keiran, Malcom, Arabella, Seraphina, Zebadiah, Elisha, Lily, Jaye, Ella, Emily, Daniel and Cecil.
