Donald John Don Behrendt was born December 22, 1938 and died peacefully at home October 23, 2014 following a long battle with cancer. Don was born to Bernard and Ellanore Behrendt in Omaha and raised in Valley, NE. Following his assignment with the Air Force, he married the love of his life, Frances Sue Parachini, celebrating 54 years of marriage and five children.
His career included 39 years with United Airlines, beginning his career in Omaha, Nebraska. Sales positions with United took the family to Southern California (Fountain Valley and Temecula), as well as Phoenix, Arizona.Shortly before retirement, he was transferred to Boise, where they were able to be closer to children and grandchildren.
Dons faith was central to his life; known as the smiling altar boy as a child. He was very involved in many aspects of St. Pauls Catholic Church in Nampa to include Knights of Columbus, where he was Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree, and awarded Knight of the Year; also involved with a medical equipment loan program and Giving Hand charity; bingo; food pantry and prolife efforts.
He loved to spend time with family camping, boating and simply enjoying time together. He was also fond of fishing, hunting and golfing.
He was a devoted husband; father and friend. He was a true inspiration through his faith, humility, strength, courage and wit.
Don is survived by his wife, Fran, Nampa; children Nanette (Bill) Byerly, Caldwell, Darice Jones, Meridian, Holly (Tom) Punt, Millard, NE, Mitzi (Joe) Yochum, Boise and Patrick (Michelle) Behrendt, New Zealand; fifteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Chuck (Kristi) Behrendt, Warsaw, MO; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice, especially Dr. Allen, Ingrid, Emily, Carrie, Jo, Kayla, Ursula, Cynthia and the rest of the staff for their compassionate care throughout these last several months. Gratitude is also given to St. Pauls community for their prayerful support, and a special thank you to Mary Keys for her weekly Eucharistic visits.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Pauls Catholic Church Building on Faith Fund or the charity of your choice.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, Oct 27, at the St Pauls Catholic Church, Nampa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M.
