Murphy

Donald "Butch" Keith Murphy passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012 at his home. He was born in Wheatland Wyoming on December 29, 1941 to Alice and John Murphy. His mother Alice married Richard Edmiston in 1945 and the family moved to Boise, Idaho in 1946. The family then moved to Nampa in 1952. He participated in football and track and graduated from Nampa High in 1961. He served in the Army from 1962-1965, and then served in the National Guard. He married the love of his life Janet Warn on December 21, 1962.
He earned a BBA in Marketing from Boise State University in 1971. During his life he followed a variety of career paths including sales at Lloyds Country stores, production manager with various mobile home manufacturers, sold insurance, was owner of the Thoroughbred Restaurant, and owner of Murphs repair.
He had many passions in life including rodeoing, stock car racing, a lifelong love of fishing, avid golfer, woodworking, and was fanatic about BSU football. He also coached optimist football. Of all of his passions in life, he loved sailing the most and was active in it until the last days of his life. He was a member of the Southern Idaho Sailing Association and served as commodore.
He was a former member of the Church of the Open Door, and currently was a very active member of the Nampa Church of the Brethren where he served as board chair until his death. He was also a member of the Nampa Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his loving wife Janet of Nampa; two daughters Tanya (Mark) Murphy-Thomas and their children Shelley (Jim), Shawna, Ryan, Lucy and Ken of Eagle, and Christa (Bob) Carlson and their children Gage and Sophia of Meridian. His also survived by three sisters Rosalind Borcher, Marilyn (Bob) Denning, and Beth (Dick) Hazen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 1, 2012 at the Nampa Church of the Brethren including Military Rites by the U.S. Army and the 11th hour toast by the Nampa Elks Lodge. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel
