Obituary

Donald F. Sayre, 72, of Caldwell, ID passed away in Caldwell on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Services will be held Friday, November 2, 2012, at 10:00 am, at Holy Apostles Catholic Church, 6300 N. Meridian Road, Meridian, Idaho. Graveside services will be held at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Caldwell at 1:00 pm. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Don was born and raised in Caldwell, and lived there his entire life. He was an avid sports fan and was especially a passionate Boise State Bronco fan and booster member. He played football and baseball throughout his school years, and later enjoyed bowling and carrying the Basque weights (txingas). Don enjoyed traveling to rodeos, riding horses and roping. He built his own arena and enjoyed many hours of riding and roping with his team roping friends and neighbors. He valued his friendships greatly! Don took great pride in being a farmer. He grew a wide variety of crops on his land. He held a great sense of pride in the quality of his crops and the appearance of his fields, seeking perfection in the straight rows of crops and corrugates of exact depth. He loved his loyal old dog, Cheyenne, and his horses. Don served on the Pioneer Irrigation Board and on the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Board for many years. Don was preceded in death by his father Reed, mother Lucile, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his cousin, Sharon Smith, and her children, Deana (Cristian) Diaz, Rebecca (Jason) Hutchinson, Dezarai (Marcus) Moulton, and numerous other first cousins. He is also survived by his good friends, Joe Patxi (Elisabet) Amuchastegui and Albert Aitor (Beni) Amuchastegui, and their families. Patxi and Aitor started out working for Don, but ended up as family and the sons he never had. We would like to extend a special thank-you to Mickey and Deanna Stritzke for their compassionate care and support of Don. While they were good neighbors for nearly 40 years, all of their help over the past year allowed Don to stay home, as he wished, until the day he died. Mickey made daily visits to the house to take care of the animals, help with the farm and help Don as needed. We appreciate your personal sacrifice and dont know what we would have done without you. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Apostle Catholic Church or to the charity of your choice.
