Obituary

On Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at a Boise care facility, our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Dorcey Staton Riggs, 97, of Boise, was taken to be in Gods care. He will be missed and forever loved and remembered by the family and friends left behind.

Dorcey was born on October 2, 1913 in Newberg, Oregon, the second son of Claude and Alta Fessler Riggs. Due to their later divorce, he was subsequently raised by his mother and stepfather, Ed Morrissey for the remainder of his childhood.

Dorcey graduated from Newberg High School lettering in baseball, basketball, football and boxing, as well as serving as senior class president. He went on to attend the University of Oregon where he played football and baseball, and then transferred to the College of Idaho where he graduated with his bachelors degree and served as an assistant football coach. He finished with his masters in education at the University of Idaho.

On June 6, 1937 he married Belva Streddar in Nampa. They moved to Weiser where he taught and coached football & baseball at the High School. He began working in administration and moved to Grangeville where he served as Superintendent of Schools for District 241 for 12 years. He finished his career as a Superintendent in the Pocatello School District. He completed his administration career with Idaho State University and retired from the State of Idaho as a Director of Teacher Certification.

Dorcey was very involved with several civic organizations in all of the places that he lived. He was especially active with the Shriners and also served as the president of Broadmore Country Club in Nampa. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife, Belva of Boise; his son and daughter in law, Jon and Karen Riggs of Boise; four grandchildren, Wendi and Mark Cannon of Camas, WA and Nicole and John Yraguen of Meridian; four great grandchildren, Morgan and Matthew Cannon and Macy and Chloe Yraguen; a sister, Charlotte (Myrland) Gilbert of Woodburn, OR; a neice Sherry Gilbert Dormier of OR; a nephew Edward Riggs of OR; a sister in law, Emily Prest of Boise; and two nephews, Jim (Judy) Kindelberger and Harry (Debbie) Kindelberger and their families; and his two caregivers Rose Spears and family and Cindy Pittit.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister in law, Harry and Barbara Riggs and a neice Annette Riggs.

A viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Ave. So., Nampa. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at the Cathedral of the Rockies, Cana Chapel, 717 N. 11th, Boise. A private burial will take place in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa.
