Obituary

Doris Adeline Smith Burry Born June 25, 1927 Deceased March 25,2016 Born on June 25, 1927 in Bayard, Nebraska Doris A.(Smith) Burry was raised on a farm in western Nebraska. After graduating from Catholic Boarding School she pursued her desire to be in nursing and attended a Cadet nursing program at the local hospital. While working for a dentist in Bayard she met and married Robert O. Burry. The four children born to this union began their childhood years in Nebraska and the family moved to Idaho in 1960. Doris returned to nursing school at Boise State Junior College and completed her RN degree with honors. During her nursing career, Doris was employed as Director of Nursing at Mark Reed Memorial Hospital in McCleary, Washington, St. Luke's Hospital and the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Boise, Idaho State School and Hospital, and the Idaho State Penitentiary mental health unit. In 1989 Doris retired from her nursing career with the Health Department in Payette although she continued to look out and nurse her elderly neighbors and friends. Doris stayed active in her retirement volunteering at Ontario and Payette Senior Centers, the Council on Aging and her most enjoyable time was when she volunteered at 4 Rivers Cultural Center. Doris was artfully gifted when it came to making quilts and beautiful decorations for holiday occasions which she did many of during her retirement years. In her later years Doris was blessed with a special connection to her sister's children David Fries and his wife Maggie, and Donnie Fries and his wife Karen and their families as they provided her comfort and heartfelt care. Doris was preceded in death by Robert O. Burry, her parents Raymond and Evelyn Smith, her Sister Esther Fries, and her brother Kenneth (Bud) Smith. Doris is survived by her four children Ellen M. Burry, Kenneth (Bill) Burry, Thomas Burry, Charlie Burry and their families. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Grace Assisted Living in Nampa and Grace Memory Care in Meridian. With Special' Thanks' to Leah Rowe for her kind and loving ways with Doris.
