Obituary

Dorothy W. Skogsberg Dorothy Wellington Grant Skogsberg, 99, of Nampa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born to Wallace and Geneva Grant on June 23, 1911, in Nampa, Idaho. A little brother, Allen, soon joined her. She went to school in Nampa and graduated from Nampa High in 1929, and also attended the College of Idaho. She met Clarence Skogsberg when he came to do custom work for her dad. Since she was picking berries at the time and didnt want him to see her, she hid behind a blackberry bush. She was quite enamored of his broad shoulders. Apparently Clarence spotted her anyway, for they were married June 17, 1934. Clark Delone was born in 1939, followed by Lonnie Dean in 1940, and Keith Wallace in 1943; who were her pride and joy. They farmed across the road from his parents farm in the Southside Community until 1950, when they moved to the Scism Community. She moved north of Nampa after Clarence died to be close to Lonnie and Linda. Dorothy attended SouthsideBlvd.UnitedMethodistChurch, deciding to be baptized at the same time as her three sons. Her life was filled with being active in the church and Southside Blvd. Grange, while taking care of her family, raising a large garden, and keeping an immaculate house and yard. As the boys grew and needed her less, she looked for another activity and decided on painting ceramics. When Clarence retired they became rock hounds, and their house and yard became filled with rocks. She started working with the stones, creating beautiful jewelry, and the whole family benefited from her artistry. When Dad became ill and needed her more, she devoted her time to him, taking care of him until he died in 1992. Jean Kilzer piqued her interest in china painting, and she continued her exquisite work, painting until just six months ago. Flowers were a passion, which was reflected in many painting projects and her lovely yard and garden. She is survived by her three sons and wives, Clark (Gail) of Reedley, CA, Lonnie (Linda) of Nampa, ID, and Keith (Theo) of Yelm, WA; grandsons, Doug, Greg, Jon, Mike, Jeff, Steve, Erik, and Nik, and one sister-in-law, Helen Grant of Boise. Her parents, husband Clarence, and brother Allen Grant preceded her in death. The family thanks her caregivers Claudia and Sue for the excellent, loving care they gave Dorothy, and also Harrison Hope Hospice for their expertise, comfort and support at a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to SouthsideBlvd.UnitedMethodistChurch, 5420 Southside Boulevard, Nampa, Idaho 83686 or a charity of your choice. Visitation is at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel on Monday, July 5, 2010, from 4:00-7:00 pm. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at KohlerlawnCemetery, Nampa, at 9:30 am, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am at SouthsideBlvd.UnitedMethodistChurch.
