Obituary

Dorothy was born December 30, 1931 to Louise and El Roy Ostrom in Turlock, California. Growing up her family followed the fruit in the 30's in Southern California and were known as "fruit tramps" living in tents, and finding work wherever they could. Mom got a Social Security card when she was 13 and packed fruit with her family. She waited tables for the first time when she was 13 in her cousin's chicken and steak house. That began a long series of service occupations. She graduated with 8 kids from the 8th grade. She attended high school in Potter Valley, CA. where she rode the family plow horses to school. Mom's nickname in high school was "Dimples". Mom married Norman Yost in 1948. Dorothy and Norm had 3 children; Michael born in 1949; Lauretta born in 1951; and Peter born in 1954. They lived in the Southern California area. Their marriage ended in 1960. Mom moved with her 3 kids back to Idaho to be with her family which had located in Nampa. She worked hard as a single parent to put a roof over our heads and food on the table. Mom developed a bartending career and worked all around Nampa. She was the head bartender at the Nampa Chief, and then at the Iron Hand. Mom married Jim Easteppe (Grandpa Bear) in 1969. Mom became known as "Grandma Bear" to her grandkids. They divorced in 1976. Mom and Ken Loe were together for several years. Mom's career took her to be the bar manager at the Eagles Club in Nampa. She loved working there and made many friends in the years she was there. Mom was raised in a Christian home and accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age. Through the years, she was very thankful to God for the blessings in her life. Mom was an excellent cook and seamstress. She raised and sold registered German Sheppard pups to the Armed Forces. In recent years she raised and sold registered Schnauzers. She loved her puppies and always kept in touch with the people who bought them from her. Mom loved to get together with her family. She loved and was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was very determined and strong willed. If she put her mind to it, it would get done. Her children and loved ones were at her side when she passed away quietly on Sept 23, 2014 after losing a courageous battle with cancer. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Elizabeth. She is survived by her brothers Ron (and Pat) Ostrom of Nampa and Paul (and Dorothy) Ostrom of Henderson, Nevada. She is survived by her children: sons, Mike and Angie Yost of Meridian, Peter Yost of Nampa, and daughter, Lauretta Wroten of Jordan Valley, OR. Grandchildren: Mandy (and Rick) Thompson, Will Wroten (and Jordin Hill), Rowdy (and Taylor) Yost, Ryan Yost, and Arissa (and John) Allgair. Great-grandchildren: Maeve & Hank Thompson, Oliver Wroten, Joe and Annabelle Yost, T.K., Tayen and Trystan Allgair. Special thanks to Wendy, Summer, and Lily of Align Hospice, and to Mary and Samantha from Above and Beyond for their special care of mom. Your kindness and support meant a great deal to our family. A memorial service to celebrate and honor her life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
