Dorothy Jean Payne 1927 2013
Dorothy Jean Payne, 86, of Nampa and formerly of Payette and Moscow, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at a Nampa hospital. Dorothy was born on January 5, 1927 in Payette, ID to Guy Luther and Cora Mae Cockerum. She was reared and educated in Payette, graduating from Payette High School in 1944. She attended the Peacock Beauty College in Nampa. After graduation she returned to Payette where she owned and operated her own beauty shop called The American Beauty Shop, located in her own home. On Oct. 24, 1947, she married Roy A. Payne at the First Baptist Church in Payette. Roy was a WWII Veteran and was employed by the J.C. Penny Company. Dorothy and Roy lived in several cities, including Kellogg, ID, Colville, WA, Laurel, MT and Spokane, WA while he was employed with J.C. Penny. In 1959 they were blessed with a son, Robert A. Payne. They moved to Moscow, ID in 1969 where they made their home. Roy passed away on Aug. 4, 2004 and in July of 2005 Dorothy moved to Nampa to be near her sister where she has since resided. She is survived by one son and daughter in law, Robert Alan and Gemma Payne of San Diego, CA; 3 grandsons, Jon of San Diego, CA, Alex, of 29 Palms, CA and Stephen of Texas; 3 granddaughters, Kristephanie, Charlene and Isabelle, all of San Diego, CA; one sister, Gerre Cain of Nampa, ID and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; four brothers, Guy Cockerum, Forrest Cockerum, Bill Cockerum and Dick Cockerum; two sisters, Hazel Cockerum and Alma Lee Alexander. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Private burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Payette, ID.
