Dr. Marvin Bloomquist Obituary Dr. Marvin R. Bloomquist "Dr. B.", 92, of Nampa, passed away in Nampa on December 7, 2022. There will be a viewing and visitation on Thursday evening, Dec, 15, 2022 from 6 8 PM at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Ave. So. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 4, 2023 at 3 PM at the NNU Brandt Center. Marvin was born on April 17,1930 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota to Johann Albin and Amy Adeline Bloomquist. Marvins parents were immigrants from Sweden. Marvin graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1948. In 1953 he graduated from Northwest Nazarene College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and a Bachelor of Arts in Voice. Marvin joined the Air Force that same year. He was stationed at Perrin Field in Texas, where he met his wife Wanda Mae Nesmith at church. They were married August 28, 1956, in Cushing Oklahoma. Shortly after the wedding the happy couple moved to Minneapolis Minnesota where Marvin began his graduate work at the University of Minnesota; he also served as minister of music at First Church of the Nazarene. On June 12, 1958, they welcomed their first child Brenda Kay Bloomquist-Paige. When Brenda was three months old, they made their way back to Nampa Idaho, where Marvin began his career at Northwest Nazarene College, teaching voice, directing the mens Glee Club, as well as director of music at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene. Over several summers, Marvin studied in Bolder Colorado. On May 12, 1964, they welcomed their son, Craig Michael Bloomquist. Later the family moved to Kansas City Missouri for Marvin to complete a PhD in Voice and Vocal Performance. Marvin was a professor at NNU for 35 years. During these years he led several trips abroad with his Crusader Choir. He retired as Emeritus Professor of Choral Music. Marvin is survived by his wife, Wanda (Nesmith) Bloomquist, Nampa; their daughter, Brenda Bloomquist Paige (Brian), Cascade, Idaho; grandchildren,: Amanda Rust (Jeffrey), and their daughters Sadie (10) and Sammye (6) of Portland, Oregon; Jennifer Cunningham (Nick), their son Tristan (10) and daughter Aria (6) of Nampa, Idaho, and Ryan Drews of Japan. Marvin and Wandas son, Craig Bloomqist (Gena), Corpus Christi, Texas and their three children; Taylor Bloomquist (Elizabeth), their children Vivienne (3) and Theodore (8 mos); Daniel Bloomquist, and Christopher Bloomquist of Texas; a brother, Ralph Bloomquist (Patty), Nampa; a sister, Doris Rowe in Montana, and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Debra Lynn (1960) and Amy Ann (1962); his great-granddaughter; Isabelle; his brothers, Merritt and Gordon and his sisters, Alice Bloomquist and Deloris Waller. The family suggest that memorial contributions be made to the Marvin and Wanda Bloomquist Scholarship Fund at NNU, 623 S. University Blvd., Nampa, Idaho 83686.
