Edward Bergeman Obituary On December 19, 2023, God added a magnificent, beautiful soul to the ranks in Heaven. Edward V. Bergeman, age 82, took his final breath after a long and valiant war waged against illness. Edward, affectionately known as "Ed" or "Eddie", was the oldest of four children born to Rodney and Mary Bergeman in a small farming community in South Eastern Idaho. Ed was a hard-worker and an enthusiastic high school athlete. While in high school, he worked at a local gas station and automotive shop. It was there, while filling up the gas tank of a car crowded with giggling high school girls, that he met the love of his life. A petite-but-feisty beauty who would become his wife, beloved friend and partner of more than 60 years, Ilene. Together, Ed and Ilene built a family, adding a daughter and two sons over the years. Eds children were his pride and joy. His daughter was the apple of his eye, and when it came to her, the giant man was a gentle, protective, unconditionally loving teddy bear. His oldest son brought Ed enormous comfort and support, emulating Eds quiet strength and generous nature, perpetually giving of himself and his time. When it came to Eds youngest son, Ed was known to say with a satisfied, slightly mystified, proud glint in his eye that "he marches to the beat of his own drum." Ed worked passionately and tirelessly for his greatest loves, his family. He helped his dad on the family farm, held a position at the Idaho National Engineering Lab, and also ran his own automotive mechanics business. He was known as an honest, independent, big-hearted man. As hard as he worked, Ed knew how to play, too. He was a talented woodworker, all-around knowledgeable handyman, and for many years, along-side his wife, tended to a multitude of farm animals and a garden of prolific abundance. Most of all, he was an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, hunting and relaxing around the campfire, reminiscing and laughing, with his treasured friends and family. For Ed, the best times were those with his family. He created joyful memories, teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish the many streams, lakes and rivers of Gods country. (Many trout met their happily delicious demise at the end of his fishing line.) Ed loved trekking through the remote back country on a 4-wheeler, always appreciative of the majestic mountains in which he felt most at peace. He passed his great love and respect for the pristine Northwest USA wilderness on to his cherished children and grandchildren. Eds extraordinary love for his children was magnified many fold when it came to his adoration for his grandchildren. Ed showered his endless grace, love, patience, and pride upon his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as upon those blessed to join his extended family through marriage and partnership. The greatest contribution Ed made to the world was inarguably through the example he set with his good nature, generosity, kindness, welcoming acceptance and love. Eds devotion to his family was undeniable and his life was immeasurably honorable and well-lived, most worthy of replication. Ed is survived by his wife, three children and their spouses, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as his much-loved younger brother and sister.
