During World War II Ed served his country in New Guinea, Southern Philippines as an armament chief in the 550th Night Fighter Squadron. He served his country along with four of his siblings. Upon returning to the States his fondnest memory was his first sight of the United States flag flying in the wind. After his discharge in January 1946 he moved to California. Ed was blessed with five children, Jan (Jim McBride) of Kuna, ID, Jody (Mike Teresa) of Kuna, ID, Ed (Bonnie) of Salinas, CA, Terry (Jim Hewitt) of Boise, ID and Ted (Kathleen) of Groveland, CA as well as 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and was known as coach to many in the neighborhood. He was very active with Little League and Pop Warner Football. The family enjoyed camping, boating, skiing and outdoor activities. He worked 30 years as a tax assessor in Monterey County, California. He loved working with the many farmers in the Salinas Valley. He leaves behind a wealth of family and a life time of friendships. He was a man of strong morals, kindness and had a very strong work ethic which was appreciated by his family. He was full of stories and loved to laugh. He always quoted and lived by the golden rule, Treat others the way you would want to be treated. If you ever needed a dollar, he would give you two. A generous man who loved life and his family will be remembered by all who knew him. We will miss you Dad. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 A.M.
