Obituary

Eleanor Berentsen passed away on November 27, 2012 in Nampa, Idaho at the age of 93. There will be a graveside service at Idaho Veterans Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 3rd at 3PM. A viewing at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel on 12th Ave. in downtown Nampa is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 3rd, 11:30AM to 1:00PM.

Eleanor was born on September 16, 1919 in the family farm-home near New Effington, South Dakota. She was the first of four children born to Selmer and Anna (Skog) Johnson. She attended High School in Sisseton, South Dakota before moving to a farm outside of Bagley, Minnesota for her final year of school, moving to St. Paul, Minnesota shortly thereafter. During WW 2, she worked as a sheet metal fabricator at Hill Air Force Base in Utah before moving to Los Angeles where she married George Berentsen whom she knew from Bagley, Minnesota and who was then serving in the Army.

Her marriage of sixty-two years to George Berentsen (d. Oct. 2006) began on October 7, 1944. They made their initial home in the Southern California area before moving to a farm near Kuna, Idaho in 1963. In 1968-69 they lived in Omaha, NEB. before returning to Idaho in 1969 and making their home in Nampa. Eleanor worked as a reference librarian for the Nampa Public Library before retiring in the 1980s. She is survived by her son Kurt Berentsen and wife Floy of Portland, OR; her daughter Kristin McDermott and husband Mike of Beaverton, OR; her grandson, Christopher of Nampa, ID and her two granddaughters, Erin McDermott of Oregon and Kendra Berentsen of New York.
