Obituary

A beautiful lady, Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Ednie Bell went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ April 24, 2015. She was born March 2nd 1920 in Nampa, Idaho to Robert and Ethel Ednie. The youngest of three daughters, her two older sisters Lily Mae Ednie Mowry past 2006 in Cypress, CA and her sister Jean E. Ednie Martin passed 2007 in Nampa, ID. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald C. Bell her knight-in-shining amour in 2010. They would have been married seventy-one years. He always said she was the inspiration in his life to keep him living through two episodes of cancer and also leading him to God through Jesus Christ. She became a Christian at a young age through her church First Church of the Nazarene, where she had attended since the age of four. As a child she grew up in Nampa, ID. Her mother had been a school teacher and her father a civil engineer. She loved gardening, landscaping, art, animals, her five grandchildren, and six in-half great grandchildren. She did the architectural drawings for her home and cabin in Cascade, ID. Her home was home of the week in the 1960s in Nampa, ID. As a teenager she wanted to become a nurse but her father persuaded her to become a teacher. She graduated from NNC in 1941, which was called normal school for teachers at that time. She taught at Bennett a one room school house south of Nampa and at Roosevelt Grade School. She married her high school sweetheart Donald C. Bell February 12, 1944 in Merced, CA. Where he was an instructor pilot and she taught school. After WWII she and her husband returned to Idaho and raised two children Dr. Rodney D. Bell and Brenda J. Joffer. Betty loved her family and dedicated her whole life to raising her two children, their friends and stray NNU students. She believed in education and encouraged her children and grandchildren to further their education. Her son Dr. Rodney D. Bell became a neurologist and is the Lynne and Harold Honickman Professor of Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School, also one of the top critical care specialists in the United States. Brenda J. Joffer graduated from Idaho State University in Dental Hygiene and is still practicing. Bettys grandson Gregory D. Bell has a PhD in History and is a professor at Winthrop University in South Carolina. Granddaughter Alison Bell Hartwich is a lawyer for the United States Congress. Granddaughter Wendy Joffer Duncan is an accountant in Boise, ID. Grandson Jared R. Joffer is graduating from medical school June 5th 2015 and will be doing a residency in Boise, ID in internal medicine. Granddaughter Holly E.N. Joffer graduated from NNU in Business Administration and Marketing. Betty died peacefully with her daughter Brenda, son-in-law Raymond Joffer, and grandchildren Wendy, Jared, Whitney, and Holly by her side. Jared Joffer held her hand until her last breath telling her to go dance with grandpa and see Jesus. She is survived by her son Dr. Rodney D. Bell and wife Hannah Lindbloom Bell of Philadelphia, PA, Gregory D. Bell wife Erika children Aidan and Brynn of Waxhaw, NC, Alison Bell Hartwich and husband Mike children Samuel and baby brother on the way of Falls Church, VA. Bettys daughter Brenda J. Joffer and husband Raymond children Wendy Joffer Duncan husband Matt children Kathryn, Luke, and Mahalah of Boise, ID, Jared Joffer and wife Whitney of Meridian, ID, and Holly E.N. Joffer, her grandmas right hand of Nampa, ID, also her beloved nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Babe VanHorn of Westport, WA. Thanks to her caregivers Stephanie Glenn and Tricia Schneider; hospice nurse Julie and beloved bath lady Margaret.

A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Ave. So., Nampa, ID on Thursday April 30th at 11 am. A private interment will be at a later date at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Donald C. Bell.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Bettys name to the Robert Ednie Scholarship Fund at NNU, 623 So. University Dr., Nampa, ID 83686 or to First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Ave. So., Nampa, ID 83651.
