Betty Chafin Ellen Elnora "Betty" Chafin passed away January 4, 2011 of cancer at the age of 83 surrounded by her family. Betty was born June 16, 1927 in Denver, Colorado to Jay and Evelyn Spangler. Betty worked many years in various jobs; it was in her last job she ever worked were she met her future husband Clinton Chafin Jr. They were married in Canyon City, Colorado August 31, 1957. Mom then became an Army wife and this adventure took her to Europe and numerous state side locations for a span of twenty years. After retiring from the military in 1968 mom and dad settled in Grand Junction, Colorado where mom remained a homemaker and mother raising four children. Mom loved to dance, work in the yard and take road trips on the weekends with dad. In 1994 they moved to Nampa, Idaho to be close to their daughter's. Sadly in July of 2009 she lost her husband of 52 years due to a lengthy illness. It was just a few months later that mom found out she had cancer. She made the brave decision to live the time she had left without treatment and did so with the greatest of dignity. Everyone that met mom liked her; they always said she had a smile on her face and a great sense of humor. Mom greatly missed her husband and they are now together for eternity. Betty is survived by her four children; son Mike and Sandy Chafin of Crescent, Iowa; daughter's Tami Chafin of Boise, Mara and Jim Ralls of Parma and Tirana and Bill Deal Jr. of Nampa; sister Jo and Chuck Perez of Grand Junction, Colorado; three grand children; five great grand children; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; Clinton Chafin Jr., her mother and father, her brother Wayne and her sister Helen. She was also loved by her pets Tweezer, Kippy and Gunner. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 P.M. Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at the Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Avenue South, Nampa, Idaho 83651. 208-442-8171. She will be buried in the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery next to her loving husband.
