Obituary

Mother is with the LORD.

Ellen Marguerite Nugent Codr went to be with her LORD and Savior Saturday, December, 8, 2012, at her home with her loving husband and family near her.

Ellen was born to Otis and Fern Nugent April 22, 1922, near Buhl, ID, where she grew up with her family of 7 sisters and 3 brothers. As a teenager, she moved with her family to the Wilson Community in Idaho, where she met her neighbor who became the love of her life, Tom Codr. They were married January 8, 1940, in Nampa Idaho. The following day they rode the bus from Nampa to Santa Monica, CA where they lived for 3 years and their first two children, Duane and Delores were born.

Before Tom joined the army in 1944, he moved his family back to Nampa where Judy was born. After the military service, Tom and Ellen farmed in Parma where Phyllis, Larry, and Ronna were born. In 1965 Ellen and Tom moved to Nampa and bought a farm south of Lake Lowell. They also lived and farmed in Orovada, NV, for a number of years before returning to Nampa to retire.

Ellen, best known to her family as the keeper of the home, was an excellent cook who could make anything out of nothing, loved working in her flower beds, and always grew a huge garden from which she canned hundreds of quarts of produce. Most of all, Ellen was a loving and faithful helpmate to her husband Tom.

A central event in Ellens life was when she, along with Tom, accepted Jesus as personal Lord and Savior. From that moment, Ellen and Tom were faithful in ministry, serving the LORD and others through their local church: first in the First Baptist Church in Roswell, ID, and later in Berean Baptist (New Hope Baptist Church) in Nampa, ID.

Ellen spent many years teaching the toddlers Sunday school class, working in the Ladies missionary circle, cooking at summer Bible camps, hosting missionaries in her home, and volunteering at Nampa Christian Schools where the last 3 of their children attended high school. Along with her busy life, she always made time to send birthday and Christmas cards to all of her growing family.

Ellen and Tom traveled extensively in their 5th wheel with friends and family, visiting many of the states, including AK; they also made several trips to Hawaii, enjoying some of the best times of their life together with dear friends.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, one brother, her oldest son Duane, and 2 grandsons, Marty and Craig. Ellen is survived by her loving husband Tom of nearly 73 years (on January 8, 2013), Dee (Floyd) Lydum of Nampa, Judy (Mike) McCarthy of Reno, NV; Phyllis (Dave) Beck of Caldwell, ID; Larry (Lynette) Codr of Meridian, ID; and Ronna (Nate) Estes of Reno, NV; seventeen grandchildren, 24 great grand children, and 2 great great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty (Roy) Lawrence, Lillian Cline, Joanne (Roger) Burley; two brothers, Gale (Janie) Nugent, Keith Nugent; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the staff of Grace Assisted Living in Nampa where Ellen and Tom have lived for the past 18 months. We also are grateful to the nursing staff and personnel of First Choice Hospice for their expert, loving care for Mom.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. A service to celebrate Ellens life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at New Hope Baptist Church in Nampa. Burial will follow in the Parma Cemetery.
