Obituary

Ethel Darline (Stanton) Chitwood, 97 of Nampa, passed away on August 12, 2014. She was currently a resident at Streamside Assisted Living in Nampa. Ethel was born October 14, 1916 to Willis and Fay Stanton on a farm northeast of Nampa. Ten years of her youth was spent in Texas where she graduated from Lytle, Texas High School at the age of 16. She and her family moved back to the Nampa area in 1934 where she remained until her death. She married Ralph Chitwood on January 1, 1937. They farmed in local communities with many years living in the Deer Flat/Scism area until 1958 when they purchased and operated Ralphs Reed and Bell Root Beer Drive-in. She sold Avon in a rural area for several years, and was employed as an assistant librarian at Nampa High School for 16 years, retiring in 1989 so she and Ralph could camp and travel more frequently in their motor home. Ralph died December, 2003. Ethel had been active in the Nampa First United Methodist Church, the Nampa Civic Center, the Early Morning Gardeners, and a bridge group of friends. She enjoyed reading, sewing and doing handwork for the Church Christmas bazaar. Highlights of her life were family get-togethers, lunching with friends and playing bridge. Her family and friends will greatly miss her cheery, loving personality. Ethel is survived by daughter Betty (Jim) Erberich, Cambridge, Idaho, sons Wilbur (Carol) Chitwood and Robert (Kay) Chitwood, Nampa, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several special nieces and nephews.
