Eugene 'Gene' Leiby Obituary Eugene (Gene) O. Leiby passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on 11/25/2019 at the age of 78. Gene was born on 04/03/1941 in Freeport, Illinois. His parents, Oney and Elanor Leiby, moved to Boise in 1945 where they raised their two boys. Gene attended Boise High School until his senior year when he attended the newly built Borah High School and was a part of the first graduating class in 1959. Right out of high school, Gene joined the US Marine Corps and attended training at Camp Pendleton in California. Gene met his wife, Sandra (Sandy) K. Rigney, when he was working at a welding shop and she stopped by to visit her friend. They were married 04/01/1962 in Winnemucca, NV. Gene began working for Intermountain Gas Co. as a welder in 1966. He stayed with the company for over 40 years and retired from the gas company as an inspector. Gene worked hard and always found time to enjoy his family and the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman which gave him the opportunity to spend countless hours in mountains with his family and friends. Genes other passion was softball. He sponsored, played and coached teams for over 40 years. His love for the game was shared with his children and many of their friends. Gene is survived by his wife Sandy, his brother Deyane (Darlene) Leiby and his three children Todd (Lori) Leiby, Tina (Kevin) Borchardt and Troy (Lisa) Leiby and a niece Holly (John) DiMicco. Gene has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of St. Lukes Hospice and the staff at Willow Park for their assistance during this difficult time. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you bring a new, unwrapped toy to the service on Saturday, December 7th at 11am to donate to the USMC Toys for Tots program and that you wear your favorite BSU gear to celebrate his love of the game and the Broncos.
