Obituary

Known to all as Fergy, to his children Carma, Tom, Cheryl, Marcy, Celynn and Delynn he was Daddy, Dad, Pop or Ferg. His thirteen grandkids called him Gramps and to his eight great grandkids, he was lovingly known as Grandpa Great or Poppa Fergy. The legacy that our father has left; is to first Love God, work hard, make your handshake count and remember that friends are worth more than any riches. Farrell Franklin Ferguison peacefully went home to Heaven on December 31, 2014. He was born to Thomas "Ray and Viola Ferguison on March 18th, 1939 in their hometown of Pleasantville, Iowa. As a young boy, Farrell moved with his parents out west and was raised in Boise, Idaho along with his two brothers Merrill and Errol, and his sister Carole. The strength of the Ferguison clan brought wonderful memories of hunting, fishing and family. If there was ever a true band of brothers it was shared between these three boys. At the young age of 14, he and his first and only sweetheart, Carla Jean Steinbach, met in junior high and married four years later on June 27th, 1957Mom was only 17! Its been told Dad was covered in poison ivy on their wedding day (no reason given.) you can only imagine the honeymoon- so it must be true, that love is blind! That was the beginning of our parents sharing almost 53 years together until our sweet Momma, our Dads "bride" as he so often referred to her, passed away on October 7th, 2010. Dad never recovered from the loss of his best friend and the love of his life. Throughout Dads 75 years on earth, he was very proud of his accomplishments. His highest honor, professionally, was receiving Idaho's Truck Driver of the year award in 1987 and being honored as second in the nation that same year. He first gave glory to God and then thanked Mom for helping him. Dad frequently would like to remind us kids, that hed driven farther backwards than we will ever drive forward. He would also say, I have been to the moon and back more times than you can count. He had logged millions of miles over his 50 years of driving and all accident free; although not jail free. Ask Marcy, she can share the story with you. Dad worked briefly for Idaho Power as a Lineman in the mid 60s, but the road always beckoned him back. So in the early 1970s he and Carla bought their own truck and became team drivers well into the 80s. In the late 70s horses and mules became a passion for him and his two daughters, Cheryl and Marcy. He rode with the Ada County Sheriffs posse and later joined the Idaho Mule Association. He knew the trails of Idaho like the back of his hand. He packed many friends and acquaintances into the back country, taking them to such rustic and beautiful places that only a few have had the privilege to see. Dad always said strangers are just friends you havent met yet and rarely a stranger did he meet. There is no book or words to guide a family through the loss of a parent, whatever the experts seem to think. It was the loss of our Mom that seemed to bring our family to our knees. But our loving parents instilled family honor and because of our faith in the Lord; it is through Christ and His unconditional love for us, that we held strong to the Lords promises. That is not to say, we did not fall down, or feel lost and sometimes angry especially over these last four years, but through prayer and God reminding us of dads often spoken words, "when you get bucked off, you get right back on" and indeed we have. His last months ended well with much forgiveness and more love than we could have ever imagined or hoped for our family together. Dads laughter and words of wisdom will be forever in our hearts. At the end of the day, our dads rough and tough character softened and became his true grit, our real John Wayne.
