Obituary

Gabina Reynoso Obituary Gabina Reynoso passed away at her home peacefully in her sleep on September 16, 2021, at the age of 97. Born in San Miguel el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico, on October 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Rito and Maria Jimenez. Gabina grew up in a large, close-knit family; she had 6 sisters and 2 brothers. She married Guadalupe Reynoso in 1943 and they were blessed with 8 children: 6 boys and 2 girls. The family moved to Texas in 1945 and settled in Idaho in the late 1960s. Gabina began working at J.R. Simplot in 1970 and retired from the company after 19 years. Gabina had a warm smile and a bright and witty personality that touched everyone she met. She was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she enjoyed cooking for her guest. She was famous for her homemade tortillas and traditional Mexican dishes such as menudo, tamales, posole, chille rellenos, huevos rancheros, frijoles, mole, and salsa. As family and friends can attest, Gabinas cooking filled the stomach and healed the soul. As a hobby, Gabina enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and the Mexican decorative stitching known as "deshilado" or drawn threadwork. She loved making blankets for her grandchildren, pillowcases, aprons, linens, and tablecloths for friends, and the catholic church. Gabina had exquisite style and her grandchildren remember her as a fashionista. She loved to dress immaculately for church services and present herself in the classiest way. In addition to embroidery, Gabina had a passion for gardening. Her porch served as an inviting reception area for guests and a greenhouse for many of her beautiful plants. The combination of her affectionate greeting, delightful foliage, and the aroma of freshly prepared food would light up anyones day. A deeply devout Catholic, Gabina made it a point to attend every Mass at St. Pauls Catholic Church despite never owning a car. Most Sundays, she would walk over two miles roundtrip to church. Always conscious of her faith and health, Gabina believed that walking to Mass promoted physical and spiritual well-being. The matriarch of the family, Gabina led her family with deep faith, stalwart values, compassion, and a big heart. Gabina was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was warm, kind, spiritual, and very caring. She is deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who know her. She is survived by 4 children, Sergio Reynoso, Imelda Hall, Miguel Reynoso, and Lilia Byrd; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 4 children: Jose Reynoso, Juan Reynoso, Guadalupe Reynoso Jr., and Abel Reynoso, and her husband, Guadalupe Reynoso.
