After a struggle with lung cancer, Gary E. Hodges, 77, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015, surrounded by his family, who loved him very much. He will be missed greatly! Gary was born October 8, 1937, in Preston, ID. He was the second son of George "Ed" and Alta Hodges. As a young man, he and his siblings grew up in the Preston and Kuna, ID, areas where they enjoyed farming together. Gary served in two branches of our military, the Navy and Army. After his service, he returned home to the Boise valley where he met his future wife, Inez. They moved to Riggins, ID, where they purchased and operated the 7-Devils Bar & Sports Shop. They raised their four children there and enjoyed many good times and great friendships with friends from the area. Gary had many interests and talents. He sold real estate for over 20 years. He was an avid horseman from the time he was a young boy. He participated in horseracing, chariot racing, and riding clubs throughout his life. He had a passion for woodworking and restoring buggies and carriages, and built many of them. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Inez; three daughters: Darene Worek of Nampa; Sherry Ogilvie of Meridian, and Lisa Hodges Rivera (Adam) of Nampa; six grandkids: Melissa, Amy, Clayton, Travis, Faith and Noah; three great-grand kids, Lilly, Morgan and Warren; two brothers, Gayle (Zelma) Hodges of Kuna & Quinn Hodges of Farmington, UT, and one sister, Eda Olsen of Bountiful, UT. He is preceeded in death by his father, George ("Ed"), and mother, Alta; son, Rick; sister, Joylene; and, brothers, Melvin, Stephen, and Blaine Hodges. He was an amazing friend! He would do anything for those he loved and was generous beyond measure with his time and talents. Anyone who knew Gary appreciated his smile and laugh, which was contagious! Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the Nampa Funeral Home on 415 12th Ave. South in Nampa. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the Riggins Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
